System Engineer
The System Engineer will join the Technical team being part of the Helpdesk providing third level support and project services. The Helpdesk is divided in 4 main streams: First and Second Level Support, Third level support, Projects and Administrative Services.
The Third level and projects are in charge of:
- Preparing the new configurations
- Remote Administration environment
- NT 4, Exchange 5.5 and Veritas BackupExec v 9
- Migration to Windows 2003 and Exchange 2003 (started begin March 2005)
- Problem analysis and solving (escalation to third parties)
- Managing the whole technical documentation and FAQs
- Training the System Engineers involved in the ‘Operations’
- Preparing training support
- Implementation of Voice and Video Services in the delegations over the WAN.
- Follow-up of WAN services (FR, MPLS, VPN, VSAT, DAMA)
The work include:
- Analysing newly announced versions
- Design and Manage ‘Reference Configurations’
- Setting-up and maintaining installation and operation procedures (and provide the documentation to the Service Centre in charge of the acceptance tests - before the documentation is published on the Web)
- Defining checklists for controlling the compliance of the installed systems with the reference configurations
- Test new products and develop procedure for disaster recovery
- Design, test and document installation procedure
- Install new servers
- Second level support on INSEM3, MS Proxy 2.0, DNS
- Configure and prepare routers for deployment (for building interconnections)
- Participate actively in the Windows 2003 migration project
Education Requirements
Essential: Relevant University degree (BAC +3/4) in IT or equivalent education or expertise Desirable: Microsoft Certifications Languages: Fluent in French and English.
More languages is an advantage.
Technical/Professional qualifications
Essential: Improved knowledge of Windows NT, Exchange Server 5.5 Windows 2003 Server (Standard and Enterprise Server), Exchange 2003
Desirable: Windows XP – Office XP, Veritas BackupExec ITIL. COBIT. Knowledge of the EC technical environment
Technical/Professional qualifications

Experience/Skills required
Thorough knowledge of:
- Windows NT Server 4.0
- Windows 2003 Server (Standard and Enterprise) and Active Directory
- Electronic mail environment (Microsoft Exchange 5.5/2003) + X400 and SMTP protocols
- VERITAS Backup software
- Internet environment (browsers, IIS),
- Telecommunications (ISDN, PSTN, Ethernet …)
- Microsoft Office products
- TCP/IP protocol and related services in a Windows NT/2003 environment: DNS, DHCP, WINS
- Hardware environment (PC, Server: RAID configuration, peripherals, cabling).
- Open Minded: capability to study and support other applications.
Professional experience of at least 5 years is required for the above-mentioned points. Good knowledge of Windows XP would be an advantage.
