Le Foyer Assurances

Le Foyer Assurances was founded in 1922 and is the leading Insurance company in Luxembourg. The Company's principal activities are the provision of insurance, assurance and reassurance services, including motor, third party motor and general, fire and damage to property, health, and asset management. Le Foyer has 420 exclusive agencies across the country.

The Challenge

Le Foyer needed to extend the central insurance information system to its network of agents and brokers in order to give them direct access to their portfolio and to quotation tools via an open architecture based on Internet technology.

The information system intends to improve business processes, provide a unified information view for the agents and the company, allow internal application control, reduce costs and time for the application’s administration and evolution, distinguishing different user profiles (agents, brokers, managers, clients, etc....) and provide a multilingual user interface. The functional scope includes the management of the clients’ portfolios, contracts and damages, as well as on-line quotation of life and non-life insurance products.

The Solution

Fujitsu Services' mission covered the specification of the technical architecture, assisting the client in the selection of appropriate tools based on its internal standards, the functional analysis for the Front-End and Mid-Tier, the design and development of the application, as well as assistance for deployment and knowledge transfer.

“Fujitsu Services' capacity to architecture a solution integrating into our environment and respecting our standards was very appreciated” says Pierre Calicis, Head of the Studies and Development department at Le Foyer.

The design of the system was realized using RUP and UML. The architecture is based on a BEA Weblogic application server, J2EE components (EJB, JSP) and an XML-based interconnection with the existing central system using IBM MQSeries.

The Benefits

The extended system allows the reduction in administration costs and improvements to business processes by providing a Web-based application for managing customers and contracts.

Fujitsu also developed a stand-alone version of the application, based on Java Swing, allowing agents to access their portfolio and the quotation tools when visiting their clients.
