Fujitsu Makes Evaluating Software-Defined Storage Simple and Affordable

Fujitsu EMEIA

Luxembourg, November 10, 2015 Fujitsu today introduces FUJITSU Storage ETERNUS CD10000 Quick Start Edition, a unique solution that gives service providers, telecommunications companies, and software developers – among many others – a fast, simple and affordable route to implementing Ceph storage in customer environments. Ceph is now the most popular open source storage platform and software-defined storage (SDS) has become the holy grail in managing sky-rocketing data volumes. However, until now it has required significant investment in expensive hardware, skill development, and eliminating risk – before even knowing if it will be sufficient for the required deployment.

Breaking the general perception that implementing software-defined storage has to be complicated and expensive, the FUJITSU Storage ETERNUS CD10000 Quick Start Edition offers a complete 5-node Ceph storage cluster running five virtual machines in a 2U rack system. It has never been easier, faster and less costly to set up an evaluation environment to get familiar with Ceph and to test individual storage usage scenarios on this platform. Until now, customers faced high entry costs as Ceph implementations need at least four storage nodes even if just set up for a test environment. By virtualizing the nodes, the investment in an evaluation platform can be significantly reduced. In addition, an integrated virtual management node makes the administration of the complete solution simpler than any standard installation.

The appliance comes pre-installed and ready to use for quick implementation of cases such as storage for OpenStack and cloud in general, S3-Object gateway functions, online archives, Sync and Share, or individual storage solutions. It is perfectly suited for cutting-edge service deployments demanding an agile storage ecosystem, such as proof-of-concept validation and engineering activities, or for testing and development environments that enable the customer to switch fast into a productive environment.

Based on their Quick Start experience, businesses can quickly transition to a FUJITSU Storage ETERNUS CD10000 hyperscale storage system that provides virtually unlimited capacity and performance. For both, the ETERNUS CD10000 Quick Start Edition for evaluation, as well as the other CD10000 models for production, Fujitsu uses Red Hat Ceph Enterprise, the leading Ceph distributor.

The FUJITSU Storage ETERNUS CD10000 Quick Start Edition is a great example of Business-centric Infrastructure that shows Fujitsu’s commitment to delivering technologies that address the varying business needs of its customers for flexible, modular, and innovative solutions that make it easier, faster and more cost-effective for them to achieve their business objectives.

Pricing and availability

The FUJITSU Storage ETERNUS CD10000 Quick Start Edition is now globally available via Fujitsu and selected SELECT Expert distribution partners. Pricing varies by region.
