Fujitsu DynamicFabric Virtualizes Network Connections and IT Capacity

Munich, July 19, 2012

News facts:

  • New Fujitsu DynamicFabric is a set of innovative technologies that can be freely combined to save time, effort and money
  • Breakthrough cost savings with DynamicFabric by using servers more flexibly and optimizing network infrastructure
  • Brocade and Cisco-based Connection Blades to ensure choice and interoperability for customers

Fujitsu today enables the creation of highly flexible, optimized network infrastructures with the launch of Fujitsu DynamicFabric, featuring three innovative technologies that can be freely combined to virtualize connections and capacity, from the server edge to the core. Customers can expect significant savings in both capital expenditure and operational costs by choosing the datacenter-class components that are ideally suited to their needs and then virtualizing network connections by combining Fujitsu PRIMERGY Blade Servers with their inherent networking infrastructure and advanced management technologies.

Business Benefits

With Fujitsu DynamicFabric, customers can optimize network infrastructure and provision network resources efficiently to scale up and down for ever-changing business needs. The simplified design and modular architecture of Fujitsu DynamicFabric is easier to manage and allows for cost-optimized step-by-step growth. CIOs are assured of investment protection via seamless interoperability with existing data center networks.

DynamicFabric puts IT managers in control of fully-virtualized Local and Storage Area Networks (LANs and SANs), adapting to virtual server workload demands with dual-port 10-Gigabit Ethernet adapter partitioning into up to eight channels. It also simplifies management by allowing the addition, replacement or recovery of server blades and network-agnostic virtualization in dynamic datacenter scenarios.

Fujitsu ServerView Virtual I/O Manager (SV VIOM) simplifies the management of rack, tower and blade servers in LAN and SAN environments and new Connection Blades for Fujitsu PRIMERGY Blade Servers utilize the latest emerging industry standards, including Data Center Bridging (DCB) as prerequisite for Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE).

Supporting quotes

Jens-Peter Seick, Senior Vice President, Product Development Group, Fujitsu Technology Solutions

“Increasing business agility requires optimized utilization of all network resources. Fujitsu DynamicFabric enables customers to achieve this by provisioning their network resources efficiently to accelerate deployment and operation of workloads.”

John McHugh, Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Brocade

“The Fujitsu PRIMERGY Blade Servers combined with Brocade’s VCS Fabric technology provide outstanding levels of performance, ease-of-deployment and resiliency. We designed the Brocade VCS technology to provide an unmatched experience for data center consolidation and simplification. It was held to our highest standards of resiliency, performance and interoperability.”

Tuqiang Cao, Vice President, Cisco

"Cisco has a long history of introducing innovations, then standardizing and building an ecosystem around them. By bringing the Cisco Fabric Extender technology to the Fujitsu PRIMERGY blade chassis, we give joint customers an opportunity to further simplify data center access operations and improve productivity.”

Pricing and availability

Fujitsu DynamicFabric components are generally available from August. They are sold via direct sales or channel partners; pricing and specifications vary according to country.

Technical information

The PRIMERGY BX Ethernet Fabric Switch 10Gbit/s 18/6+6, an embedded version of the Brocade VDX 6730 Data Center Switch, is a high-performance 10 Gigabit Ethernet switch with both LAN and native Fibre Channel ports that provides a high degree of flexibility to support dynamic IT environments with unmatched scalability for cloud architectures. It features Brocade’s award-winning VCS Fabric technology that enables organizations to build high-performance cloud-optimized data centers while preserving existing network designs and cabling, and gaining active-active server connections across the entire Fujitsu DynamicFabric infrastructure. Sharing intelligence automatically between fabric nodes enables the entire fabric to be managed more efficiently, significantly reducing operational overhead. In addition to Fibre Channel storage area networks, PRIMERGY BX Ethernet Fabric Switches enable connections to Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE), iSCSI, and NAS storage.

The PRIMERGY Ethernet FEX 10Gbit/s 16/8 , also known as the Cisco Nexus B22F, simplifies data center architecture and operations by extending the Cisco Unified Fabric high performance network architecture into the Fujitsu PRIMERGY Blade Server environment. The blade is part of the Cisco family of Fabric Extenders (FEX), that allow fabric extensibility with simplified management enabling the switching access layer to extend and expand all the way to the Blade servers as the customer’s business grows. The FEX blade behaves like an extension of a parent Cisco Nexus switch offering more operational simplicity at scale, with a single point of management and policy enforcement across more than 1000 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports. The solution supports both Ethernet-only environments as well as Converged Ethernet environments using Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) to help lower the total cost of ownership and further simplify cabling of the data center architecture.
