New Benchmarks Confirm Fujitsu PRIMERGY Leadership as Best Performing 8-Core, Dual-Socket Systems for Virtualized Environments

Fujitsu PRIMERGY RX300 S6 and the new BX922 S2 claim #1 and #2 position as the ideal virtualization platforms; delivering outstanding reliability, availability and security

Munich, May 07, 2010

Reaffirming its number one position as the powerful heart of a virtualized server infrastructure, Fujitsu today announced that the best-selling PRIMERGY RX300 S6 x86 rack server has achieved a new world record VMmark benchmark1. Delivering flexibility to meet varying customer needs, Fujitsu simultaneously demonstrates outstanding performance over two form factors, with the recently launched virtualization-specialized PRIMERGY BX922 S2 x86 blade server, jumping straight into the number two slot on the same benchmark category.

This independent test result verifies virtualization leadership for Fujitsu PRIMERGY 8-core, dual-socket systems. The VMware VMmark measures the performance of virtualized servers while running under load on physical hardware. Combined with a Fujitsu ETERNUS DX80 storage system, the PRIMERGY RX300 S6 achieved a new 8-core system world record score of 28.02@18 tiles1 – a standard VMmark measurement – closely followed by the PRIMERGY BX922 S2 with 27.99@18 tiles2 – on May 5, 2010. This is the first virtualization benchmark in this category to measure systems using the latest Intel Xeon processor 5600 series, widely anticipated to contribute to new standards of performance.

With challenging competition, tight budgets, juggling people and know-how, or minimizing power consumption and energy costs, businesses are under incredible pressure today. Says Jens-Peter Seick, Senior Vice-President x86 Server Product Unit at Fujitsu Technology Solutions: “ Virtualization can solve many problems, but unless you want to create more than you solve, its critical to choose servers that are proven in delivering the complex processing requirements that virtualization demands. Consistently achieving top rankings in benchmarks with our best-selling PRIMERGY RX300 ‘great all-rounder’ system, gives businesses an easy, flexible, and future-proof, foundation stone upon which to build their future success. And now, so quickly to achieve a top ranking with the ‘virtualization specialized’ PRIMERGY BX922 server blades for the Dynamic Cube, customers preferring this form factor also have a clear choice.”

Designed to excel in much-demanded virtualized applications, these dual-socket high-performance platforms offer industry-leading flexibility, both in running multiple virtual servers and managing business processes, while contributing significant savings on hardware investment and maintenance. Their massive performance advantage comprises the fastest processors, the highest I/O output, the most energy-efficient power supplies, and the largest disk capacities in Fujitsu ETERNUS storage subsystems.
