    Fujitsu Develops High-Speed, Power-Efficient ReRAM Featuring Limited Fluctuation of Resistance Value
    Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. today announced the development of a new type of resistive RAM (ReRAM), a type of non-volatile memory, which combines low power consumption with limited fluctuation of resistance value. By changing the structure of the ReRAM by adding titanium (Ti) to nickel oxide (NiO), and by limiting the current flow from the transistor, Fujitsu Labs has successfully reduced the current needed to erase memory to 100 micro-amperes or less. Furthermore, even in high-speed erasure operations requiring only 5 nanoseconds, fluctuation of resistance value which affects the device's quality has been reduced to one-tenth (1/10th) that of conventional ReRAMs. Fujitsu Labs views the new ReRAM as an alternative to flash memory that combines high speed and low power consumption, in a low-cost embedded memory.

    Fujitsu Develops Highly-Reliable Multi-Layer Interconnect Technology for Logic LSI Devices for 32nm Generation and Beyond
    Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. and Fujitsu Limited today announced their development of technology that enables high-reliability multi-layer interconnects for logic LSIs for 32nm generation and beyond, by using copper with manganese additives in combination with an ultra-thin film barrier metal. Compared to conventional technology, Fujitsu's new technology effectively reduces line resistance in interconnects, and increases endurance against electro-migration - a cause of LSI degradation over time. This technology will enable Fujitsu to provide highly-integrated high-performance LSIs to customers.

    Fujitsu Electronic Devices Group Asia (EDGA) today announced a majority investment in Chengdu West Star Chips Co., Ltd. to boost its R&D capabilities in Chengdu, West China. As part of expansion plans derived from this investment, West Star has relocated to new premises to accommodate the expected expansion of its R&D team by over 300 engineers in the next three years.

    Fujitsu and Taiwan's Institute for Information Industry to Establish Joint Venture for WiMAX Application Platforms
    Fujitsu Limited and the Institute for Information Industry (III) of Taiwan, a non-governmental organization jointly sponsored by the Taiwan government and prominent private enterprises, today announced their agreement to enter into a memorandum of understanding (MOU), to establish a new company in Taiwan that will develop application platforms and provide engineering support based on WiMAX technology from Fujitsu and III. Through the joint venture, scheduled to be established in March 2008, it is anticipated that Fujitsu and III will significantly contribute to the development of the WiMAX industry in Taiwan.

    Fujitsu Launches Full HD H.264 Transcoder LSI
    Fujitsu Limited today announced the development and launch of a new transcoder large-scaled integrated (LSI) chip that can convert full HD (1920dot x 1080line) MPEG-2 video data to H.264 data and compress data size to less than one-half that of MPEG-2. Sample shipments of the new chip, the MB86H52, will start from September 1, 2007. This new transcoder makes it possible to extend recording time of recording devices such as hard disk recorders by over 2.5 times, as the chip enables data size compression without compromising video quality. The transcoder can also be embedded in a multitude of equipment requiring reduction of data size, and can realize full HD over narrower bandwidths used for home network, the use of which is anticipated to spread hereafter.

    Fujitsu Develops Technology for Low-Power, High-Performance 45nm Logic Chips
    Fujitsu Limited and Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. today announced their development of a platform technology for 45 nanometer (45nm) generation LSI logic chips, which combines technologies for low power consumption and high-performance interconnect. Compared to previous 45nm technologies on record, the new platform reduces the leakage current that occurs when current is wasted in wait states to one-fifth that of previous levels and reduces interconnect-induced lag times by approximately 14%. The realization of these new 45nm generation platform technologies will enable Fujitsu to offer its customers LSI logic chips that feature even higher speeds, smaller size and lower power consumption than currently available.

    Jazz and Fujitsu to Collaborate on Providing Complete Solution for 90nm and 65nm RF CMOS Foundry Customers
    Fujitsu Limited (Fujitsu), Fujitsu Microelectronics of America, Inc. (FMA), and Jazz Semiconductor (Jazz), a wholly owned subsidiary of Jazz Technologies, Inc. (AMEX: JAZ), announced today that they will work together to manufacture System-on-Chip (SoC) products for RFCMOS devices. Under a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the companies, the collaboration is designed to combine superior RF and mixed signal expertise from Jazz and leading-edge existing 90nm and 65nm manufacturing technology from Fujitsu, enabling both companies to deliver high-performance Customer Owned Tooling (COT) foundry services to SoC customers. The alliance will enable Fujitsu to offer Jazz's high-precision RF models and design kits using Fujitsu's 90nm and 65nm low-leakage, leading-edge LSI manufacturing process. The companies will conduct joint marketing and sales activities, and the products will be manufactured at Fujitsu's 300 mm Mie fab located in Kuwana city, Mie prefecture in Japan.

    CorEdge Networks and Fujitsu Demonstrate Industry’s First 10GbE MicroTCA Implementation at the MicroTCA Summit, May 30 to June 1, Baltimore, at Booth #29
    CorEdge Networks and Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA) have collaborated to develop the industry’s first 10GbE MicroTCA demonstration. It will be shown at the MicroTCA Summit in Baltimore, Maryland, between May 30th and June 1st. The demonstration is housed in CorEdge’s 2U PicoTCA system, a 3.5” x 13” x 8.5” (H x W x D) platform, which integrates a MicroTCA Carrier Hub (MCH), Power Module (PM), and up to four Advanced Mezzanine Cards (AMCs). Video streams are transferred between two of CorEdge’s 10Gbps programmable AMCs through the 10GbE-capable MCH, using Fujitsu’s MB8AA3020 20-port, 10 Gigabit Ethernet switch chip.
