Fujitsu announced today that IDG’s Computerworld Honors Program has named it as a 2012 Laureate. The annual award program honors visionary applications of information technology promoting positive social, economic and educational change.
“Since immediately after the earthquake, Fujitsu has made all-out efforts to overcome the disaster,” said Sogo Fujisaki, director of the CSR Department in Fujitsu’s Public Relations Unit. “That includes having provided a full range of resources for the emergency restoration of social IT infrastructure and even free-of-charge cloud services. As recovery and rebuilding have just begun, our work in this area is ongoing. Fujitsu is very much honored to be recognized for these activities by Computerworld.”
Fujitsu’s Alison Rowe, Global Executive Director, Sustainability, Global Business Group, added that “Fujitsu is proud to be recognized for its role in mitigating the effects of the earthquake and tsunami that devastated the East Japan coast in March 2011.”
Immediately after the earthquake, Fujitsu formed a Central Disaster Response Headquarters, led by the president, to ascertain the safety of Group employees and customers, and to collect damage situation reports. Then, in December 2011, Fujitsu further bolstered its efforts by establishing a full-fledged business unit dedicated to the recovery and reconstruction of the devastated region. The Fujitsu Group continues to work as one, bringing the full capabilities of its information and communication technology to bear to improve people’s lives while offering safe and secure products and services that stand up well to natural disasters.
“There’s no question technology plays a vital role in driving business forward. It ensures an organization's ability to innovate, communicate and thrive. What the Computerworld Honors Laureates so clearly demonstrate is technology's role in moving society forward. Computerworld acknowledges and applauds the outstanding work being done by individuals and organizations, such as Fujitsu, who have successfully used technology to improve the quality of our lives and that of future generations,” said John Amato, Vice President/Publisher of Computerworld.
The Computerworld Honors Program awards will be presented on June 4, 2012 in Washington, D.C.
