Fujitsu Installs WLL (CDMA) Network for MTNL Mumbai


Mumbai, January 26, 2002 — In its endeavor to provide affordable mobile service in the areas of its operation, MTNL decided to deploy CDMA WILL equipment in Delhi and Mumbai.

MTNL has planned to install 150K Lines of CDMA Network in Mumbai in three phases of 50K Lines each. The contract for the first phase has been signed and is under execution.

The contract for providing of CDMA WILL services on IS 95A standard has been awarded to Fujitsu India Limited. The first phase of 50K Lines has been installed and the services have been commercially launched on 26th January 2002.

Minister of Communications, Mr. Pramod Mahajan, inaugurated the services for Mumbai on 31st December 2001.

MTNL is a public sector company, which has been conferred the special status ‘Nav Ratna’ company by the Government of India. By virtue of this status, MTNL Board has been granted special powers and is authorized to take investment decisions without seeking approvals of the government.

MTNL provides various telecom services in Delhi and Mumbai and has a vision statement to provide world-class telecom services at affordable prices and become a total solution provider. It aims to find a place in ‘Fortune 500’ companies, and become the largest provider of private network on leased lines.
