Fujitsu Services

22nd January 2007 — Dublin
Regina Moran, Country Operating Office for Fujitsu Services Ireland has over 20 years experience in the IT industry, where she began as a hardware engineer for Amdahl. From there she moved into DMR Consulting, which became Fujitsu Consulting and subsequently merged with Fujitsu Services in April 2004. Following the merger Regina was responsible for delivery, until August 2006 when she was appointed to her current position.
Talking about her current role, Regina is very passionate. She believes that she – and indeed Fujitsu Services Ireland – has a fantastic opportunity. Following the merger the operation in Ireland experienced some tough challenges, however she believes they are now ready to start exploiting the synergies the merger has presented, ‘because of the merger we have business consulting, applications, infrastructure, managed services… all the components to become successful. It is really now about leveraging the sum of the parts to become greater, as we haven’t managed to capitalise on this yet. What I’m doing is energising people to see the possibilities, which are huge actually’
Regina starts the week with a weekly operations meeting with her management team. They will review the past week and look at what challenges they face for the week to come, ‘this really sets the scene for the week’. Unsurprisingly, no two days are the same; however Regina likes to spend a portion of it with customers, a portion walking the floor meeting people. When on customer sites Regina will always make a point of visiting the Fujitsu team, ‘these people often feel they are forgotten but they really are the core of our business, out there serving our customers’.
So what about the challenges and highlights of the job so far?
Perhaps the biggest challenge is that of profitability. Regina has seen her first 3 months in the job focused very much internally - on improving efficiency and eliminating waste – all of which will help Ireland build a stable base from which to grow. Regina notes one of the key highlights was winning a transformational contract which was signed in October 2006. Details of this have not yet been released, but will be over the coming weeks and months. This win she sees as a story about Fujitsu as a corporate entity winning, and the support provided from the UK and Finland as a prime example of what can be gained by bringing the greater Fujitsu into our customers.
Another highlight is the people, ‘I get a great buzz from the team here. We have a very strong committed team which we’ve managed to retain through turbulent times, and you get a great energy from the people around you… People look to you to lead them, and I enjoy that. At the same time however I’ve got 3 youngish kids at home and they really do keep your feet firmly on the ground!’ And the future? After a period of internal consolidation Regina is now focusing externally, on growth opportunities, building both her and the company’s reputation and most of all ‘on making Fujitsu great!’
