Fujitsu continue successful relationship with The Marine Institute

Dublin, 17th August 2006 — The Marine Institute’s Irish Spatial Data Exchange was publicly launched at the Location2006 conference at the Davenport Hotel in Dublin on Thursday 22nd of June 2006. Fujitsu Services partnered with ESRI Ireland and The Marine Institute to develop a data warehouse solution which creates an Irish Spatial Data Exchange and Query Service for spatial-related metadata. The ISDE is a discovery service for spatial data generated by partner organisations participating in the exchange and facilitates searching of meta-data catalogues operated by each of the partner organisations.

This data is now available for analysis internally and externally, via the Irish Spatial Data Exchange website (www.isde.ie) and will be available on the Marine Institute’s website (www.marine.ie) within the coming weeks.

The current participating in the exchange are:

  • The Coastal and Marine Resource Centre at UCC
  • The Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources
  • The Environmental Protection Agency
  • The Geological Survey of Ireland and
  • The Marine Institute

The Irish Spatial Data Exchange solution demonstrates the value of data exchange within the marine sector & public services sector as a whole. It provides immediate practical assistance to those agencies & organisations & individuals that require a nationwide view of the available marine data.

The project will also increase Ireland’s ability to manage & benefit from the marine related data resource that exists within the public services & will demonstrate the potential of web-enabled Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and related technologies at a national level.

The Marine Institute also commissioned Fujitsu to redevelop their corporate website www.marine.ie which went live in July 2006. IQ content were commissioned to consult on the usability and navigation of the website. The website allows The Marine Institute to make available the data from the Irish Spatial Data Exchange to internal and external parties.

Fujitsu have a long standing relationship with The Marine Institute and since 2002, Fujitsu have been engaged as the Institute’s strategic IT partner and has delivered bespoke ship-board data acquisition and visualization systems, data warehousing systems, an accounting system, intranet/intranet sites development, geographic information systems and sub-contractor management services.
