Customer’s Challenge
Bord Gáis Eíreann was established under the 1976 Gas Act and it is their responsibility to transmit, distribute and support
natural gas and electricity in Ireland. The company is a major player in Ireland’s gas market, supplying almost 500000 homes
and 18,000 business customers. Bord Gáis is owned by the Irish Government however it is a commercial entity and successfully
competes in a very competitive and increasingly deregulated energy market in Ireland. Bord Gáis has capitalised on the deregulation
of the energy market and has already captured 7% of market share.
With the advent of market deregulation Bord Gáis decided it had to enhance its business processes to meet the criteria set
down to:

- To retain market share

To address these challenges Bord Gáis formed a specialist team who together with Fujitsu, implemented a variety of Oracle
Modules applying best business practices and introducing a common data model and standards within the Finance and Procurement
functions.

The implementation approach included:
- Architecture: A resilient, fault tolerant and secure database and application architecture using Oracle 11i and 9i database, reports etc…
- Interfaces & Integration: Fujitsu together with the Bord Gáis specialist team developed interfaces and integrations for this project covering financials,
purchasing, project costing & inventory management.
- Data Migration: Fujitsu together with the Bord Gáis specialist team migrated an extensive volume of data from the legacy systems to the new
integrated Oracle applications.
- Training: Training Needs Analysis was performed, Training Plans were developed, custom-built Training materials were created, and the
Training Programme was managed and delivered.
- Support: Fujitsu provide Bord Gáis with ongoing support for their Oracle Applications.
