Fujitsu PC Asia Pacific Pte Ltd
Singapore, 7 November 2002 — Capitalizing on more than a decade of experience in designing and manufacturing pen-enabled computers, Fujitsu Limited and its group affiliates today announced the global availability of the Fujitsu StylisticTM ST Series Tablet PC. The announcement comes in conjunction with the launch of Microsoft® Windows® XP Tablet PC Edition, a new version of Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional, with an extensive and integrated suite of utilities such as handwriting and voice recognition.
Innovative Design and Features
The Fujitsu Stylistic ST Series Tablet PC features an XGA TFT display equipped with an electromagnetic digitizer, making it possible to write directly on the screen with the accompanying pen. This feature allows for more intuitive pen operation and accommodates natural handwriting input. The Stylistic ST Series Tablet PC's unique design allows it to be used as either a slim line desktop or a portable PC, according to the needs of the user. This innovative computer weighs a mere 1.48kg with an ultra-slim depth of 22mm, making it one of the thinnest and lightest Tablet PCs to date.
The first Fujitsu Stylistic ST series Tablet PC to be offered in Asia Pacific is the Stylistic ST4110, which is powered by the Mobile Intel® Pentium® III processor offering excellent performance for all types of data management tasks. Based on the slate concept platform for maximum portability, the Stylistic ST4110 has a clean, simple design with a series of quick access application keys. These keys allow one-touch operation of important functions such as shifting the orientation of on-screen documents and graphics from vertical to horizontal and vice versa. The Stylistic ST4110 also features 10/100 Base-T Ethernet, 802.11b wireless LAN capabilities, and the inclusion of many useful interfaces like an IR receiver, USB and FireWire ports. A specially designed “suede” pad on the underside also offers a secure, comfortable grip for rugged handling.
More Functionality with the Tablet Dock
The Stylistic ST4110 can be converted for desktop usage via an optional Tablet Dock. This ingenious docking system offers integrated DVD/CD-R/RW drive or CD-ROM drive, as well as three USB ports for connecting peripherals such as keyboards and printers. In addition, the Tablet Dock allows instant release of the Stylistic ST4110 without the need to restart the Tablet PC. Besides the Tablet Dock, the Stylistic ST4110 also comes with a wide array of hardware options including a wireless keyboard and specially designed screen protectors.
Geared for Use In and Away from the Office
Fujitsu has also integrated Wi-Fi compliant wireless connectivity into the Stylistic ST 4110 to maximise its mobility. Professionals in the logistics, medical, scientific and education industries will appreciate the ability to update and access real time records and information. In addition, the high capacity battery that powers the Stylistic ST4110 provides over four hours of continuous operation, making it a boon for road warriors.
Active Digitizer for Easy Pen Input
The high resolution 10.4" XGA TFT colour display of the Stylistic ST4110 has an active digitizer, which allows smooth and easy pen input, all in your own handwriting. Users will find writing on the display a simple and intuitive experience, since the active digitizer makes the Stylistic ST4110 extremely sensitive to each pen stroke. An improved “pen and paper” feel, it gives the user both the pleasure and confidence to enter data, review an email or even sketch a plan in one’s own handwriting. Handwritten notes and documents are then converted from “Ink” (a form of virtual handwriting) to crisp, accurate text by Microsoft® Windows® XP Tablet PC Edition, the first dedicated operating system for Tablet PCs.
Ms Evelyn Ang, Product Marketing Manager, Fujitsu PC Asia Pacific, said: “With its unique handwriting recognition capability and highly mobile yet full-featured nature, the Tablet PC is poised to become a popular personal computing tool. The Stylistic ST4110 combines all of these qualities in an innovative form factor which is designed to increase the usability and enjoyment for users, thus setting the standard for other Tablet PCs to follow.”
Mr Andy Zupsic, Managing Director of Microsoft Singapore, added: “The Tablet PC offers users a more natural, convenient and intuitive way of interacting with PCs. Working closely with partners like Fujitsu, Microsoft will provide the information worker with the power, mobility and versatility offered by the new Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC edition software. Windows XP Tablet PC edition is the first full-featured OS designed for pen-based computers. Its advanced deployment technologies and policies for the corporate environment and multi-language capability makes it the ideal global business solution.”
