Fujitsu Launches ETERNUS8000 and ETERNUS4000 Storage Systems for Indonesia

- World's largest storage capacity and highest I/O processing performance. High scalability, excellent performance and robust data encryption for SAN environments. -

Jakarta, April 28, 2006 — Indonesia's leading information technology and communications solutions provider PT. Fujitsu Indonesia today announced the ETERNUS8000 and ETERNUS4000 disk array storage systems for the Indonesia markets.

Designed specially for storage area network (SAN) environments, the new products combine high scalability, excellent performance and robust data encryption to meet the expanding storage needs of multinational companies, large enterprises as well as small- and medium-sized businesses.

ETERNUS8000

Available in four models (Models 700, 900, 1100 and 2100), the ETERNUS8000 enterprise disk array storage system offers high reliability and performance for heterogeneous environments

Features include:

ETERNUS8000

World's highest storage capacity and input/output (I/O) processing performance

The Model 2100 (the top-end product within the ETERNUS8000 range) offers a storage capacity of 1.36 petabytes (PB)*1 – higher than any other storage system available today. Running on 16 processors each rated at 3.6 GHz, the Model 2100 offers throughput performance that is approximately 2.5 times faster than that the Model 1100, which was released by Fujitsu under the earlier ETERNUS6000 product line.

*1 PB is equivalent to 1,000 terabytes (TB), or 1 million gigabytes (GB)

High scalability and data transfer speed

The Model 2100 can be connected to servers by as many as 128 paths, and can accommodate up to 256 GB of cache memory and eight controllers, thus giving it approximately double the scalability of current models. In addition, it uses high-speed fibre channel server interfaces for a maximum data rate of 4 gigabits per second (Gbps).

Data encryption support

The ETERNUS8000 offers 128-bit encryption to eliminate information leaks even when the drives are physically removed, for enhanced security.

Improved backup features

The ETERNUS8000 is designed to make a complete copy of the source data only during the first disk-to-disk backup. During subsequent disk-to-disk backups, only changes to the source will be copied. This is a fast backup method and also allows for smaller backup volumes, and is an efficient approach to double-redundant backup for file servers.

Other features

Other features include:

  • RAID6 (Redundant Array of Independent Disks, Level 6) support, for improved fault tolerance
  • iSCSI (Internet Small Computer System Interface) support, for remote copying over a network and inexpensive disaster recovery
  • LUN (Logical Unit Number) expansion support, for upgrading individual system components with little or no downtime

ETERNUS4000

The ETERNUS4000 midrange disk array storage system is available in four models – Models 80, 100, 300 and 500) – that combine high performance with superior affordability.

Features include:

Support for mission-critical operations

The Model 500 and Model 300 offers all the key features found in the ETERNUS8000 product line, for supporting mission-critical operations based on open systems. Such features include:

  • 128-bit data encryption support
  • iSCSI support
  • asynchronous data transfer capabilities

High I/O processing performance, scalability and throughput

The Model 500 (the top-end product within the ETERNUS4000 range) provides a pair of dual-core processors each rated at 2 GHz, giving the system approximately 1.5 times the I/O processing performance of the ETERNUS8000 Model 700.

In addition, the Model 500 offers 16 interface paths to servers and up to 32 GB of cache memory, for large-scale storage integration.

Furthermore, all four models under the ETERNUS4000 product line support high-speed fibre channel server interfaces for a maximum data rate of 4 Gbps.

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY

The ETERNUS4000 is priced starting from USD14.5K while the ETERNUS8000 is priced starting from USD91.6K. Both systems will be available for the ASEAN (including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam) and India markets from end of June 2006.

In Indonesia, the ETERNUS Storage System has been successfully deployed with its benefits proven by various enterprises, including the telecommunications and manufacturing verticals.
