Fujitsu Expands Palm Vein Technology Market in Indonesia

Fujitsu Works with Partners and Encourages Technology Innovation in Universities

NUSA DUA, Bali, Desember 07, 2012

Fujitsu, the leading provider of ICT-based business solutions, during the annual Media Gathering 2012 today demonstrated PalmSecure ™ --the company’s latest palm vein biometric authentication technology, and elaborated its plan to expand the market in Indonesia.

Fujitsu has been developing PalmSecure™ palm vein authentication technology that uses vascular patterns as personal identification data. Vein recognition is secure because the authentication data exists inside the body and is therefore impossible to forge. These unique characteristics have helped palm vein recognition technology gain popularity in the security space, commonly used for time-attendance system. Trends in the global biometric industry revenues during 2009 – 2014 are for annual double-digit growth rates.

“This global trend will also hit Indonesia. That is why Fujitsu is bringing this palm vein authentication technology here through the PalmSecure™ line of products. Palm vein technology offers a more secure and reliable alternative under any conditions to the current fingerprint, iris and hand geometry recognition technology. We already feel some traction in the Indonesian market towards palm vein technology,” said Achmad S. Sofwan, President Director, Fujitsu Indonesia. “In Indonesia, we aimed the PalmSecure™ solutions towards the enterprise, midmarket, education, insurance and government sectors that needed a simple but more secure authentication technology, either for attendance system, as a sign-in method into a restricted system or to protect access to PCs.”

Working with partners

Fujitsu is working closely with partners to expand the application of PalmSecure™ technology into various usage scenarios in diverse industry. With more available applications that support and complement PalmSecure™ technology, the market size will expand. Fujitsu will also organize the Fujitsu Innovation Challenge - PalmSecure™ to encourages innovation among college students to develop innovative applications based on palm vein technology. To help the students start learning and exploring palm vein technology, Fujitsu will provide selected universities with a PalmSecure™ palm vein authentication system and technical guidance for application development.

Winners of this contest will earn the opportunity to visit Fujitsu’s Research & Development or Production facility, a joint-marketing of the application, or a contract employment in Fujitsu Indonesia.
