BPPT Selects the Fujitsu Cloud

Jakarta, Desember 02, 2011

Fujitsu, a leading provider for business solution, technology information and communication, today announced that Indonesia’s Technology Assessment and Application Agency (BPPT) has selected Fujitsu to provide Cloud Services for one of its critical information technology operations

Fujitsu Cloud

Fujitsu’s winning Cloud Services bid is to build a fully configurable, cloud-based infrastructure for data center and knowledge management system held by the government’s non-departmental agency in October 2011. Private cloud model will be used by BPPT’s Network Centre of Science and Technology (IPTEKnet) and Centre for Data and Information.

The entire project will take about two months and will be completed by January 2012. However the cloud infrastructure will be 80% operational during BPPT’s kick-off ceremony in December. BPPT is the first government agency to adopt cloud computing and it is also the first Fujitsu Cloud user in Indonesia.

“We assessed a number of cloud providers and we selected Fujitsu as it has proven success in deploying cloud services globally and it will be able to provide us with the robust and secure services that meet our needs,” said Dr. Dwi Handoko, Head Network Centre of Science and Technology at the Technology Assessment and Application Agency.

Fujitsu is providing BPPT with a comprehensive suite of cloud-based solutions, which includes Fujitsu’s platform and professional services. Fujitsu’s platform consists of PRIMERGY servers and ETERNUS storage systems supported by ServerView Resource Orchestrator V3 (ROR V3). Fujitsu will also undertake a cloud feasibility study, design the archi-tecture system and implement the cloud platform.

Accelerating the e-government implementation

The adoption of Fujitsu Cloud is expected to accelerate the implementation of e-government in Indonesia. This project will pave the way for the city/municipal governments across Indonesia to leverage the cloud computing infrastructure and improve its provision of public services. Dwi added that the implementation of e-government allows city/municipal governments who have less IT budget and resources to deliver e-government services efficiently.

By adopting the Fujitsu Cloud, the agency has already won over two city governments, Governments of Cimahi City and Pekalongan City, to offer e-government on cloud. The agency is also looking to attract other city/municipal governments as well as small and medium enterprises.

“Fujitsu is honoured to be chosen by BPPT to bring their cloud vision to reality. Recent interests from the market indicates that cloud computing is seriously being considered and likely to see greater adoption in Indonesia soon” said Achmad S. Sofwan, President Director of Fujitsu Indonesia. “We believe cloud computing will improve the availability and reliability of public services. Fujitsu is fully committed to help BPPT realize their vision of building an efficient e-government.”

Technology Assessment and Application Agency is a non-departmental agency under coordination of Ministry of Re-search and Technology, which was established on January 28, 1974. The agency performs a duty of assessing and applying any technologies so that it can realize its vision as center of technology excellence.

Note:

PRIMERGY is Fujitsu’s server products of high performance and scalability. PRIMERGY is already certified with vSMP Foundation Hardware from SacleMP, a platform for developing high-performance computing system including cloud computing.

ETERNUS is Fujitsu’s storage families, bringing forward the concept of ‘Flexible Data Safe’. The ETERNUS storage system is highly flexible for any usages scenarios whether in small or big-scale environment, traditional environment or cloud computing. Still, with such flexibility, storage system in ETERNUS ensures high level of data protection.

ROR V3 is management software specially designed to manage the operation of private cloud. The software has been applied at Fujitsu Numazu Software Development Cloud Center in Numazu, Shizuoka, Japan, to control more than 3,000 serves and virtualized service center, which is globally accessed for developing Fujitsu’s software.
