Fujitsu Technology Solutions in the CEMEA&I region (Continental Europe, Middle East, Africa and India) has taken measures to ensure business performance and continuity for its local customers after the disaster that hit the northeast of Japan. These measures include taking on additional production capacities in its Augsburg factory and exploring alternatives in the supplier landscape for components necessary for production.
On Monday, March 14, 2011, Fujitsu Limited, headquartered in Tokyo, reported damages to six of its factories in Japan and immediately established a disaster response headquarter in accordance with the overall Fujitsu group’s policy. In response to the damages, Fujitsu is temporarily transferring the desktop PC production to the unaffected Shimane factory. Fujitsu’s factory in Augsburg, Germany, is working with Japan to ensure a continuous server supply.
Consequences for Fujitsu in CEMEA&I
Fujitsu’s operations in the CEMEA&I region are not affected directly by the situation to date. Fujitsu’s factory in Augsburg, Germany, will take on additional production capacities to support Japan in ensuring business continuity. All desktop PCs and x86 servers, as well as selected notebook lines for this market, are manufactured there already.
Currently, Fujitsu is exploring alternative supply options should they become necessary to continue production. Since only one air freighter is currently testing all products sourced in Japan for radioactive contamination, Fujitsu is introducing its own additional spot-checks on finished air-freighted products upon their arrival (in Europe) from Japan, beginning today (Friday, March 18, 2011). Fujitsu is taking this preemptive measure in order to provide European customers and partners with additional peace-of-mind about the safety of all Fujitsu products. In order to ensure transparency, Fujitsu is in talks with an independent testing laboratory to carry out these evaluations on its behalf.
Fujitsu has mitigated the economic consequences of the disaster through the company’s global and decentralized structure: “Our first priority is to support our colleagues in Japan.
