Fujitsu PRIMEPOWER UNIX Server Once Again Achieves World Record Performance in Java Server Benchmark
Hong Kong, April 26, 2006 — Fujitsu Hong Kong Limited, today announced at the Fujitsu Solution Forum Hong Kong that the PRIMEPOWER 2500, the high-end model of its PRIMEPOWER™ server line, has again achieved a new world record in the Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation (SPEC®)* Java Business Benchmark 2005 (SPECjbb®2005), with a performance of 1, 251,024 business operations per second**.
This record was achieved with a PRIMEPOWER 2500 server running 128 SPARC64™ V processors - an internally developed high-performance, highly reliable processor operating at 2.08 GHz and on Solaris 10 operating system. The PRIMEPOWER outperformed similarly-configured systems from other vendors, achieving performance speeds 7.4% and 283% higher in both cases.
SPECjbb2005, developed by SPEC, indicates server performance in Java business applications environments. Such benchmark results can be directly mapped to an organisation’s process requirements. The benchmark simulates actual wholesale business processes including orders, deliveries, payments, inventory and customer information management. The benchmark results thus can be used as a good index of actual business application performance.
SPARC64 V, the heart of PRIMEPOWER's high performance, incorporates robust features, including super scalar construction, Out-of-Order execution and non-blocking cache control. PRIMEPOWER, which contains up to 128 SPARC64 V processors, is one of the most scalable server families in the world. It allows an organisation to meet changes flexibly as the business environment changes and/or data volumes grow.
With this announcement, Fujitsu is continuing its fine tradition of developing servers and processors to deliver the highest possible performance in UNIX servers. On top of reliability and scalability, Fujitsu PRIMEPOWER servers are based on an industrialised approach to providing IT infrastructure with less risk and costs to the organisation.
James Pang, General Manager, Information Systems & Services Division, Fujitsu Hong Kong, said, "Standardisation and repeatability makes for IT systems that are highly efficient and predictable. Fujitsu spends US$2.4 billion annually on research and development, to make sure our products are of high quality, focused on open systems and works well with other IT systems. We analyse customer requirements on a regular basis and feed the findings into the design process."
"Thus, our solutions are designed in the laboratory, and built, tested, sized and verified in the factory, keeping the risks and testing costs to Fujitsu but not customers. This creates an R&D pipeline optimised for the real world, producing zero-defect products. This approach also allows Fujitsu solutions to be more flexible and deployed 30 percent faster on average. It prevents over-engineering, a common yet costly problem in today’s IT infrastructure investments," concluded Pang.
