Fujitsu Exceeds 2GHz Processing Speeds in new range of PRIMEPOWER UNIX® Servers

New enhancements to SPARC64™ V processors give PRIMEPOWER servers a huge boost in performance and reliability; Record score on SAP SD Two-tier Standard Application Benchmark Makes PRIMEPOWER Clear Choice for Enterprises Running Solaris™


Hong Kong, June 23, 2005 — Fujitsu Hong Kong Limited, a leading provider of customer-focused information technology and telecommunications (IT & T) solutions and services, today announced processor enhancements to its full range of PRIMEPOWER servers, which sets new benchmarks of processing power and performance for Solaris-based UNIX servers.

Available from today are seven new PRIMEPOWER server models utilizing the SPARC64 V processors with varying clock speeds. The mid to high-end PRIMEPOWER 650, 850, 900, 1500 and 2500, with clock speeds that exceed 2GHz, are designed for mission-critical computing and enable Fujitsu Hong Kong to offer its enterprise customers a broad choice of IT systems, services and solutions running on the Solaris operating system.

The PRIMEPOWER 2500, configured with 128 2.08GHz SPARC64 V CPUs, has set a world record for the SAP® SD two-tier Standard Application Benchmark with 1.6 times the performance of its predecessor with 1.30GHz processors (for details see: www.sap.com/benchmark).

The workgroup class of PRIMEPOWER servers, the PRIMEPOWER 250 and PRIMEPOWER 450, will ship with the latest 1.87GHz SPARC64 V processor with 3MB of "on chip" L2 cache, which ensures massive system performance for 2-way class server models. The PRIMEPOWER 250 is also available in a 4U rack mount model. A 2GB memory option is installable for the PRIMEPOWER 250 and 450 base units, further increasing the processing power capability of these servers.

In today's challenging business environment, information systems need performance to match application demands and the flexibility to accommodate changes and expansion. In response to these requirements, the new PRIMEPOWER models yield excellent performance in a wide range of applications, and with the flexibility to meet a wide range of customer needs. The new models are designed with reliability features tailored to mission-critical applications such as large databases and online transactions. With support for both hardware partitioning and the virtualisation technology in Solaris™ 10 Operating System, it gives customers greater flexibility in administering their systems and delivering superior system stability. PRIMEPOWER servers help improve operational efficiency and continuity, drive down total cost of ownership and help business grow.
