Fujitsu cuts costs and implementation times with FlexFrame™ for mySAP™ Business Suite

Hong Kong, June 10, 2005 — Fujitsu Hong Kong Limited, a leading provider of customer-focused information technology and telecommunications (IT & T) solutions and services, launched today its FlexFrame™ for mySAP™ Business Suite, a technology solution that allows organisations to build scalable, highly available SAP environments while reducing total cost of ownership and system complexity.

An independent market study* has found that, by radically simplifying SAP infrastructures with FlexFrame, organisations could reduce up to 60 per cent in TCO. The study, commissioned by Fujitsu, also found that organisations could achieve 168 per cent return on investment with a payback period of 1.6 years.

"Organisations can reduce costs and speed up implementation for new mySAP applications by using FlexFrame," said Yau Kan, Deputy Managing Director, Fujitsu Hong Kong. "FlexFrame has helped some of our global clients free up the significant capital that is locked into supporting existing infrastructure, to be invested in new programs to drive business change."

"This solution has already been successfully implemented by over 60 clients globally. Every organisation in Hong Kong and China with investments in infrastructure supporting SAP should look into this exciting and cost-effective option," Kan added.

FlexFrame consolidates all of an organisation's SAP applications and servers into a single solution that is easy to manage, scalable and highly available. The solution takes advantage of the grid computing capabilities of the Linux and Solaris operating systems to run a single instance of the operating system and a virtual mySAP environment over multiple servers.

The FlexFrame solution was developed by Fujitsu Siemens Computers jointly with SAP and Network Appliance at the Fujitsu SAP Global Competency Centre in Waldorf, Germany and is the first technology to achieve certification for SAP's Adaptive Computing model. Adaptive computing allows hardware resources to be dynamically assigned to specific SAP applications. The solution is also compatible with older versions of SAP that do not directly support adaptive computing.

"SAP's vision for Adaptive Computing is aimed at organisations that want to better utilise their existing computing assets and be more dynamic to changing business conditions," said Mr Lee Boon Lee, Chief Operating Officer, SAP North Asia, and President, SAP Hong Kong & Taiwan. "With SAP NetWeaver™, companies can rapidly execute new business strategies and processes in a cost-effective way. SAP NetWeaver supports open industry standards and interoperability, allowing for ease of integration with both SAP and non-SAP systems and enabling Enterprise Service Architecture, SAP's blueprint for a services-oriented architecture. The SAP NetWeaver platform is the first to deliver a unified set of technology and application services that support the innovation and business needs of all enterprises."

"Fujitsu's FlexFrame is the first realization of SAP's Adaptive Computing infrastructure which provides the basis capability of SAP NetWeaver. It is designed to release organisational IT resources, by reducing the cost associated with hardware assets and easing system complexity. These resources can then be diverted towards business driven IT projects that enable process innovation and increase competitive advantage," Kan said.

Using FlexFrame, servers can be dynamically reprovisioned to run different applications or take over from a failed system within minutes. If additional computing power is required, new servers can be plugged into the system and are ready to run within a few hours. The initial FlexFrame solution implementation is also extremely rapid with physical installation reduced to a matter of days instead of weeks or months.

"Tasks such as adding new systems which would normally have taken many weeks can now be achieved in days," Kan said.

FlexFrame is particularly well suited to organisations or government departments using or considering a shared services model. "With Fujitsu FlexFrame, departments using a shared services model can now achieve economies of scale while maintaining complete separation between systems," Kan added.

Organisations around the world, including automotive components manufacturer Hella KG in Germany and the Netherlands' TPG Post, have successfully implemented FlexFrame and are now reaping the benefits.

"The combined skills of Fujitsu, SAP and Network Appliance give this solution a compelling value proposition," Kan said.

Organisations running five or more mySAP servers are best positioned to take advantage of FlexFrame. Fujitsu can provide services for organisations wishing to migrate to the FlexFrame environment.
