This scheme will help break the geographical barriers of learning, enabling YCPS to extend school education beyond classrooms and the campus through the use of advanced wireless devices and electronic learning materials.
In the strategy paper titled "Empowering Learning and Teaching with Information Technology" issued in July this year, the Education and Manpower Bureau recommended schools to deploy electronic and interactive learning materials to enhance teaching and learning . In support of this initiative, YCPS today announced its plan to pilot "My First English e-Book" project for Primary 4 students in the 2004/05 school year. The project aims at improving students' overall English standard through the use of electronic learning materials and activities designed to support the curriculum. An English e-Book Centre will also be set up to facilitate English language teaching.
Financed by the Quality Education Fund, this pilot scheme will study the feasibility and effectiveness of deploying e-books in primary school teaching. YCPS will share its experience with the education community at different stages.

"Yaumati Catholic Primary School is committed to enhance teaching and learning effectiveness through IT. Driving the trend, we applied the funding for this project with the Quality Education Fund last year. With strong support from the Hong Kong Institute of Education, TIM EDPlatform Limited, Modern Educational Research Society Limited and Fujitsu Hong Kong, we are able to kick off the project in the new academic year. At different stages of the project, we will share our experience with other schools and education institutes to expedite the development of IT education in Hong Kong," Mr. Tsoi added.
