Fujitsu's Newest PRIMEPOWER 250/450 Servers Record Faster Clock Speed in SPEC Benchmark, Offer Powerful CPU Performance

With new 1.32GHz processors, latest models provide 30% more power, greater system flexibility, and capability to install up to 16GB of main memory

Hong Kong, March 18, 2004 — Fujitsu Hong Kong today announced new outstanding upgrade features for its PRIMEPOWER 250/450 enterprise servers expected to help companies access and process mission critical applications faster and efficiently without increasing software cost.

PRIMEPOWER 250/450 server models' new 1.32GHz SPARC64TM V processor and system architecture pack massive performance improvements compared with the previous PRIMEPOWER models that run on 1.1GHz SPARC64TM V processor. PRIMEPOWER servers have excellent linear scalability when processors are added, and with this latest processor, the overall linear scalability and value for money have further improved tremendously.

The SPEC benchmarks show that PRIMEPOWER 250/450 servers with 1.32GHz SPARC64TM V processors have faster clock speed of 20 percent than the previous models, 30 percent better CPU performance, and 25 percent overall system performance. Both new models now support 4GB memory modules option and 2MB L2 on-chip cache processor.

The new option to add twice the memory using 4MB modules instead of 2MB will allow enterprises to have more memory space to store applications that would result in increase in system performance as well as speed up processing as lesser time is required to instruct the system to retrieve them from the disk.

The performance results and comparison ratios are shown in the SPEC benchmarks table below.

PRIMEPOWER 250 PRIMEPOWER 450
SPARC64 V SPARC64 V SPARC64 V SPARC64 V
1.32GHz/2MB 1.1GHz/1MB 1.32GHz/2MB 1.1GHz/1MB

SPECfp2000 1,325 (129%) 1,030 1,350 (130%) 1,037

The new enhancement is part of Fujitsu processor upgrade roadmap in continuously improving the performance of its enterprise computing platforms in order to help companies meet the processing requirements of their mission critical environments.

"Fujitsu is committed to continuously improving the performance of our enterprise computing platforms by adding new processors with faster clock speed," said Herbert Chan, marketing manager, Fujitsu Hong Kong.

Contrary to reports that hardware upgrades are costly exercise, companies in Hong Kong can upgrade to the new PRIMEPOWER 1.32GHz SPARC64TM V servers without incurring high costs, and ensuring ROI for their technology investment."In most upgrades, software is often licensed by the numbers of CPU, and often software costs higher than hardware. PRIMEPOWER 1.32GHZ SPARC64TM V servers allow approximately 25 percent more users or transactions to access the same application without any increase in software cost. The number of CPUs remains the same, thus the upgrade cost is lower than adding CPUs, and as a result provides enterprises the flexibility for future expansion cost effectively," Chan added.

The new models are perfect for 24/7 data centers, or robust application platforms for SME or departmental operation.
