Fujitsu Introduces the World's First High-Capacity 2.3Gigabyte GIGAMO Magneto-Optical (MO) Drive

Hong Kong, October 3, 2002 — Fujitsu Hong Kong Limited today announced the introduction of the new GIGAMO Drive, MCJ3230AP. With highest capacity, it is one of the most cost-effective solutions available in the 3.5 inch removable storage market.

In this dynamic broadband Internet era, companies have to handle an increasing amount of digital information, MO drives have been widely applied in medical devices, telephone switching systems, financial institutions, surveillance cameras, and other commercial applications that require high reliability.

The introduction of 2.3 GB capacity point in a 3.5-inch MO disk can fully meet the requirement in its application on desktop publishing, backup, or archiving data. The MO disk is expanded with AV capture and playback functions, system backup and removable storage. Its full downward compatibility insures current MO users with full read and write capability, so saved data will still be available when they are upgraded to the new capacity drive. The new Fujitsu MCJ3230AP MO drive has full native compatibility with the latest Mac OS X v10.1 operating system, as well as compatibility with Microsoft®Windows®platforms. Fujitsu MO technology is nearly indestructible, with far better read/write performance than other removable storage options but in a better price than ever.

As the fifth-generation of Fujitsu MO technology, the 2.3GB MO drive nearly doubles the capacity than previous models. It is backward-compatible and can read and write on all 3.5-inch MO media capacities, including 1.3GB, 640MB, 540MB, 230MB 128MB, as well as Over-Write disks (640MB and 540MB). The new drive also provides 19ms seek time, data transfer rates up to 8MB/sec and an 8MB buffer, making it ideal for intensive audio, video and graphic applications. In addition, the MO solution helps to facilitate high-speed file backup for commercial systems such as telephone/PBX, medical and data acquisition systems.
