Fujitsu Launches New Entry-Level SPARC Enterprise M3000 Server Powered by the SPARC64 VII Processor

Eco-friendly and Reliable Server Delivers Trailblazing Enterprise Performance and Mission-critical RAS in Ultra-dense Footprint and Lower Operating Costs

SPARC Enterprise M3000

Hong Kong, October 30, 2008 — Fujitsu Hong Kong Limited, a leading provider of customer-focused information technology and telecommunications solutions and services, today announced the launch of SPARC Enterprise M3000 server, powered by a single quad-core SPARC64 VII processor, in Hong Kong. The SPARC Enterprise M3000 server inherits the mission critical features of the SPARC64-based SPARC Enterprise family, delivering mainframe-like reliability, availability and scalability (RAS) in an ultra-dense open system at an entry-level price. The new server provides an ideal platform for enterprise applications including databases, Business Intelligence Data Warehouse (BIDW), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM).

Leveraging the same quad-core SPARC64 VII processor used in the world-record holding SPARC Enterprise family, i.e. M4000, M5000, M8000 and M9000 servers, Fujitsu's SPARC Enterprise M3000 server delivers doubled performance while consuming only half the energy and space than previous UltraSPARC IIIi-based servers.

The SPARC64 VII processor also enables excellent single core performance with its Simultaneous Multi-Threading (SMT) chip architecture. In addition, with the latest I/O interfaces, PCI-Express, and SAS system architecture, the new system minimises latency and provides maximum throughput, whether running compute, I/O, or memory intensive workloads. The new SPARC Enterprise M3000 server, therefore, is the platform of choice for enterprises that are looking for the best possible cost-effectiveness with unmatched system performance.

"With the recent global economic downturn, Hong Kong customers are more eager than ever to ensure their IT systems are cost-effective and efficient to the highest possible level. Trailblazing performance with mid-range to high-end architecture of the entry-level SPARC Enterprise M3000 server is ideal to meet Hong Kong customers' demand in this regard," said James Pang, General Manager, Information System and Services Division, Fujitsu Hong Kong Limited. "With the perfect balance between mission-critical features, compact form factor and power efficiency, the SPARC Enterprise M3000 server enables significant cost savings in power and space expenses, thus helping customers to strengthen their positions in meeting the financial challenges ahead."

SPARC Enterprise M3000 Server Delivers Efficient Platform for Virtualisation, Consolidation

At just two rack units (RU) weighing 49 pounds (22kg), the SPARC Enterprise M3000 server significantly reduces physical footprint and avoids rackmount floor-loading, thus providing more flexibility in terms of where the server can be installed. Leveraging Solaris Containers, the new SPARC Enterprise server provides an ultra-high density environment with exceptional virtualisation capabilities and enables customers to optimally consolidate entry-level servers into compact 2U chassis, letting them further reduce energy consumption and save space.

The SPARC Enterprise M3000 server also features two efficient cooling zones and an autonomous 9-stage fan control. This maximises cooling and energy efficiency and minimises noise: energy consumption is reduced by 50 percent or more over previous UltraSPARC IIIi-based servers and noise is reduced to 47dB, roughly the same noise level as a quiet office.¹
