Fujitsu Launches ETERNUS2000 SAN System in Hong Kong
Entry-level Priced Storage Solution with Enterprise-class Performance and Reliability

Hong Kong, October 25, 2007 — Fujitsu Hong Kong Limited, a leading provider of customer-focused information technology and telecommunications solutions and services, today announced the launch of ETERNUS2000 disk array storage system to Hong Kong consumers. Built with enhanced reliability, expandability, data security and power-saving features, two models (namely Model 100 and Model 200) of the new ETERNUS2000 are entry-level storage area network (SAN) solutions offering enterprise-class performance and reliability to meet the demands of small- and medium-sized businesses in Hong Kong.
The latest Fujitsu SAN solutions were developed to meet the rising demand for operational reliability, expandability, power saving and noise reduction. The Model 200 and Model 100 offer maximum storage capacities of 54TB and 18TB respectively. Large cache sizes of 4GB and 2GB respectively also ensure system performance remains high even when usage levels are scaled up.
Featuring a single-chip independent disk array controller with 60% fewer parts and a smaller circuit board, the ETERNUS2000 series has a 2U, nine-centimetre rackmount configuration and enables significant savings of hardware footprint by 50% and power consumption by 40% respectively*. Noise output has also been reduced to only 42 decibels (dB) during operation, which is comparable to the level of quietness in a public library, driving the industry benchmark even lower.
As part of Fujitsu's ongoing commitment to providing its consumers with the best IT solutions, Fujitsu is working with leading partners such as Microsoft, CA and CPCNet to provide a wide range of solutions that will be bundled with the ETERNUS2000 series. More details of the solution offerings will be available at a later stage.
"The combined strengths of Fujitsu and our leading solution partners will certainly make the ETERNUS2000 series a strong offering to small- and medium-sized enterprises in Hong Kong that are looking for a reliable, high-performing and affordable solution to meet their data management needs," said James Pang, General Manager, Information Systems & Services Division, Fujitsu Hong Kong Limited. "Our partnership with leading solution providers is yet another example of our commitment to deliver added value to our customers through innovation not only in technology, but also in the means and ways of providing them with viable solutions to meet their special needs."
The ETERNUS2000 series supports a wide range of hard disk drive (HDD) and operating system options. The two models support Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) HDDs with a maximum spindle speed of 15,000 revolutions per minute (rpm) or Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) HDDs rated at 7,200 rpm or lower. Engineered with four fibre channel host interfaces - in which each interface features a maximum throughput of 4Gbps - the ETERNUS2000 is compatible with Solaris, IBM-AIX, HP-UX, Linux and Windows operating systems. Fujitsu server lines such as PRIMEQUEST, PRIMERGY and SPARC Enterprise, as well as those by other vendors are also supported.
ETERNUS2000 is simple in set-up, which allows users to deploy quickly and easily. Other benefits include its ability to minimise system downtime in the case of power failures via hot-swappable key components such as controllers, power supply units and fans. Firmware can be added on-the-fly without disrupting system operations. ETERNUS2000 also boasts increased reliability; its support for RAID6 ensures data preservation even when two drives in the same RAID group fail. Furthermore, ETERNUS2000 features verification checks to ensure data consistency and independent disk array support to improve fault tolerance. This also enhances system performance as well as overall reliability.
The ETERNUS2000 series is priced from HK$50,000 with a wide range of configuration and customisation options. Both Model 200 and Model 100 are available to Hong Kong consumers from today.
