Fujitsu Hong Kong Limited

Hong Kong, March 27, 2007 — Fujitsu Hong Kong Limited, a leading provider of customer-focused information technology and telecommunications solutions and services, today announced the launch of the PRIMERGY TX120 ultra-compact size server. Currently the world's smallest footprint server (395cm²), the PRIMERGY TX120 is about the same size as a slim tower desktop PC, featuring the new "straight-line cooling" method and low power consumption.
The introduction of PRIMERGY TX120 servers to Hong Kong SMEs follows similar recent launch in Japan, targeting retail and SOHO markets that require space-saving IT infrastructure to be installed in office workspaces. With a 75% reduction in volume and 66% reduction in footprint compared to current tower servers, two of these ultra-compact size servers can be installed in the space where a conventional-sized tower server once fitted. The successful reduction in space and size was achieved by downsizing the heat pipe and adopting 2.5" hard disk drive technology. The server can also be placed vertically or horizontally.
"Fujitsu's development of the world's smallest footprint server is a significant milestone in reshaping our focus towards delivering value through innovation to one of our core markets in Hong Kong - the SME sector," said James Pang, General Manager, Information System & Services Division, Fujitsu Hong Kong. "This all-in-one server has become the ideal option for a wider range of vertical markets and has set a new trend towards the commoditization of the server market in Hong Kong, allowing SMEs to equip with servers of comparable performance and reliability on par with more elaborate, costly alternatives."
The PRIMERGY TX120 server is gaining traction in Hong Kong's SME sector, with leading retail sector-focused reseller Retail Alliance Limited among its first customers. "Retail Alliance Limited provides an on-demand POS hardware solution to all major system integrators in Hong Kong. To cope with our business expansion, Retail Alliance Limited not only has installed the Fujitsu PRIMERGY TX120 server for our internal system expansion, but will also resell the product to add extra dimensions in space-saving and environmental consciousness to our customers and the retail industry," said Rico Li, Director, Retail Alliance Limited. "We look forward to bringing our customers a compelling and innovative product for which Fujitsu is known."
Fujitsu has again set the industry benchmark of quietness even higher, holding down the noise output to 32 decibels (dB) maximum in operation and 28 dB when idling. The adoption of a new "straight-line cooling" method enables air to flow effectively through the server chassis from front to rear. Components that are sources of heat such as CPUs are aligned along the air flow. By positioning two fans for pushing or pulling the heat from the CPU, this further reduces the fan operation to a lower rotation speed. The PRIMERGY TX120 servers also utilize an enhanced "heat-pipe" cooling method to control the cooling fan's rotational frequency by detecting the temperature within the server.
Additional benefit of the Fujitsu ultra-compact size server includes best-in-class low power consumption at 175W even in the fully equipped configuration by the use of the latest low power consuming CPU, Dual-Core Intel® Xeon® processor 3070 (2.66GHz) / 3040 (1.86GHz) and 2.5" SAS hard disk drive, attaining the world's highest standard in energy-saving. Reliability and performance are further enhanced through the RAID1 configuration, remote service functions which help maintain the server's stability and enable 24/7 operation required by servers. Furthermore, an in-built backup device (DAT/RDX drive) can be provided as an option. The DAT/RDX drive can perform backup functions internally and is currently unavailable in other comparable models. These qualities make the PRIMERGY TX120 ultra-compact size servers highly applicable to a wide range of distributed and SOHO workspaces, including retail in-store, back office servers and small office servers, as well as SMEs.
