ScanSnap iX500 with Brand New Feature - Connect the personal professional scanner to Your Computer via Wi-Fi

Free update for the new function to meet user demand

Fujitsu Hong Kong Limited

Hong Kong, July 29, 2013

Fujitsu, the leading ICT solutions and services provider, today announced a new function update for ScanSnap iX500 personal professional scanner, the high-end model from the best-selling ScanSnap series, enabling users to scan directly to a computer via a Wi-Fi connection.

ScanSnap iX500

ScanSnap iX500 Personal Professional Scanner Compatible with both Windows® / Mac Operating Systems

An increasing number of users around the world are choosing the ScanSnap series of personal scanners as they deliver speedy, “One Touch” document digitization to PDF files in a compact design.

ScanSnap iX500 Personal Professional Scanner, the newest model in the series, was released in January 2013. It is equipped with a Wi-Fi function which enables users to scan or save documents directly to a smartphone or tablet, while benefiting from fast scanning speeds and excellent paper feeding performance with the professional-use document scanner.

Following user feedback gathered since the product was launched six months ago, there has been particularly strong demand for a Wi-Fi connection with computers. Fujitsu is therefore now making this new function available for free, to meet demand. “We're delighted to offer this new function to ScanSnap iX500 owners for free. This is especially helpful for professionals such as doctors, accountants, architects and lawyers, who require quality and high performance, to handle large amount of documents on a daily basis. With the new functionality we hope to make our scanners even more user friendly, bringing our customers ultimate convenience with Fujitsu's innovative products,” said Ms Candy Wong, Assistant General Manager, Imaging Business, Fujitsu Hong Kong Limited.

In addition to smartphones and tablets, this new update enables communication between the scanner and computers (Windows® / Mac OS) via a Wi-Fi connection1. Users can enjoy the same functions, features and usability when they connect the devices via Wi-Fi, as when they connect via USB. This means high-speed scanning of 25 sheets/minute (color 300dpi)2, automated functions and the ability to link to various applications and cloud services. Users can be more flexible in where they place their scanner as a USB cable connection to the computer is no longer required.

To benefit from the new functionality, users should look out for a notification for an automatic update from “ScanSnap online update” after July 29th, 20133. The update process can be completed quickly and easily by carefully following the instructions on the screen. The new feature can also be pushed to the device by updating the ScanSnap Manager (for Windows® / Mac OS) from the Fujitsu global site product information page listed below.

PRODUCT FEATURES

1. The scan environment has been upgraded, centered around a newly developed image processing engine "GI" processor 4
The hardware has been revolutionized, equipping the iX500 with an image processing engine "GI" processor and brake rollers suitable for scanning large volumes of documents at high speed. Users can digitize documents easily and efficiently.

(1) Ability to forward scan data from iX500 to a smartphone/tablet/computer via a Wi-Fi connection
Users can now forward image data from the iX500 directly to a smartphone, tablet or computer via a Wi-Fi connection 5 . The data from the scanned document is saved in PDF format (JPEG format also available) directly on the smartphone, tablet or computer, so users can capture short documents and memos as easy-to-see image data, in the same sense of using a digital camera.

(2) Improved speed performance of 25 sheets / minute (25% increase from previous model at color 300dpi)
The iX500 achieves high-speed, stable scanning when connected to a smartphone, tablet or computer 6 via Wi-Fi. It automatically detects the size of the document, its color, and whether it is single-sided or double-sided, so that users can digitize documents with ease and speed.

(3) Durable paper feeding performance when scanning large volumes of documents at high speed
Inheriting the paper feeding technology we have cultivated in our professional-use image scanners with the world's number one market share 7 , a professional-use document separation method using brake rollers has been adopted for the first time in a ScanSnap series model. This results in optimum paper feeding performance and reliability 8 . Furthermore, ultrasonic sensors detect multifeeding enabling users to scan large volumes of documents with confidence.

2. Usability of software has been significantly improved

(1) Quick Menu has been upgraded
By providing a "Favorites" mode in the popular Quick Menu, users can now easily choose how to use the scanned image data. Users can easily display linked applications and cloud services. In addition when scanning business cards a "Recommendation" feature has been added to automatically display related applications from the Quick Menu. Since the Quick Menu is displayed according to the type of document the users scan and the functions that they use daily, users never are at a loss as to which function to use.

(2) The ability to search PDFs has been significantly accelerated
The development of highly-rated searchable PDFs has been greatly accelerated by parallel scanning and OCR processing 9 (reduces scanning time up to 45% compared to previous models 10 ). Since users can create them at practically the same speed as normal PDF files, users can use searchable PDF files immediately with cloud services and applications.

(3) Business card management has been improved and integrated with "CardMinder" software
TThe global version of the business card management software "CardMinder" (Windows® version and Mac OS version) supporting business cards in 11 languages including Chinese (Traditional and Simplified), English, Japanese is bundled as standard.
