Fujitsu’s Platform-Neutral Zero Client Goes Mobile with New MZ900

New Zero Client models extend further cost reductions and productivity gains to enterprises while doing away with existing infrastructure legacy issues

Fujitsu Hong Kong Limited

Hong Kong, December 15, 2011

Fujitsu today introduces the new portable Zero Client MZ900, which extends mobility to the enterprise virtualized desktop environment with a USB stick form factor, as well as the Zero Client DZ22-2 and Zero Client DZ19-2. The three new models will complete the entire Fujitsu Zero Client product range from desktop to mobile devices, providing more choices and flexibility for companies to introduce or integrate a full desktop virtualization platform into their existing infrastructure. Recognizing that customers require an adaptable solution to meet their unique business needs, Fujitsu Zero Clients are able to support more hypervisor platforms than any other vendor today. The MZ900 will also cater to portable computers, which will greatly expand the mobility of any enterprise workforce.

"As virtualized desktop environments continue to gain popularity in Hong Kong, Fujitsu is at the forefront of the innovation with these new Zero Client models. Fujitsu provides everything necessary for a seamless transition to a scalable Zero Client environment, from software and hardware with an open and independent platform, to services that simplify installation," said Rikiya Kano, General Manager, Marketing, Fujitsu Hong Kong Limited. "Through the flexibility of the Zero Client infrastructure, we will provide a one stop shop for virtual client computing in order to help customers achieve greater cost savings and invest in innovation for the future. Fujitsu Zero Client is suitable for various industries such as financial services, logistics and education, and has been successfully proven in both local and oversea markets."

For companies considering a virtualized IT environment but may have concerns about integrating Zero Clients into their existing infrastructure, Fujitsu's platform-independent system resolves this issue as Fujitsu Zero Clients support all three leading hypervisors. IT managers no longer have to reconfigure terminal services, but instead choose the platform that best meets their existing infrastructure requirements. Fujitsu's highly scalable architecture also makes it easy to add or remove Zero Clients to meet changing business demands. In addition, new features such as Power over Ethernet (PoE) will further reduce costs and increase productivity.

Virtualization technology has transformed the way businesses manage their servers, storage, and even the endpoint. Fujitsu Zero Client devices are designed to be silent and space-saving but yet deliver a complete desktop experience. In an office environment, all the intelligence of Zero Clients is integrated into a single monitor unit. For mobile users, the system resides securely on a portable MZ900 USB stick that simply plugs into any available PC. Business applications, storage, and operating systems are delivered from a powerful backend system like Fujitsu PRIMERGY servers. It provides a familiar desktop environment to users, while freeing up time spent on local backup and recovery tasks.

As compared to the traditional IT workplace environment, the Zero Client system is able to achieve more than 60% energy saving and more than 80% carbon footprint reduction. In terms of IT management, administrators can make a single installation and software update centrally, which means less technical resources and significant savings of both time and money. As an example, the TCO (total cost of ownership) benefits for a company with 500 employees, the IT cost savings of switching over from the traditional desktop to a Zero Client platform is estimated at 34.8%.
