Traffic/People Flow Planning

Predictive analysis of dynamic urban traffics and of people's behavior at large-scale event or commuter traffic in huge urban spaces.

SPATIOWL is potentially applicable to visualizing urban traffic and people's behaviors based on historical data of probe data, urban transportation operation and people flow. The data can be used for predicting movement pattern of vehicle and people in specific situations - live show, sports event or some other unexpected situations where lots of vehicle and people are transiting at the same time within same facility or area. SPATIOWL enables municipalities, urban transport authority, public transportation operators and event organizers to act strategically to optimize the flow of people and vehicles by allocating its resources where they will be most needed.

As an example of traffic flow planning, Fujitsu has been utilizing taxi probe data as "roadside monitoring sensors" to predict urban traffic congestion as well as to visualize urban traffic flow and congested areas. Fujitsu has collected real-time taxis operation data (e.g., speed, location, sudden acceleration/deceleration, occupied/non-occupied, etc.) from approximately 8,000 taxis running around major cities in Japan. Based on this project experience, Fujitsu successfully developed a tool to visualize the impact on the traffic flow in the Tokyo metropolitan area resulting from the Great Earthquake in Northern Japan on March 11, 2011.
