Adoption of industry-standard and open virtualization technologies
Through development and collaboration with main partner vendors and open-source communities, Fujitsu has adopted and enhanced industry-standard and open virtualization technologies. The result is the ability to provide customers with a wide range of options to meet their diverse virtualization needs.
Virtualization
Virtualization here refers to an infrastructure that allows both dynamic modification of operating systems and business applications without modifications to the IT infrastructure itself. It is a total abstraction of all higher processes from the underlying hardware.
Server virtualization
Server virtualization technology enables multiple operating systems to run at the same time on a single physical server. This means multiple business applications can make effective use of server resources. It also enables server consolidation and provides for the dynamic allocation of all necessary server resources to the active business applications.
- Linux virtual machine function
Fujitsu is positioning Linux as the operating system for the next-generation IT infrastructure, adopting a strategic approach in accordance with this move. Working in concert with our distributors (Red Hat and Novell) and the Linux community, Fujitsu is creatively applying its wide range of expertise for use in the Linux environment. Fujitsu's industry standard PRIMERGY servers offer a wide selection of Linux systems, ideal for customer needs. These range from 1WAY servers, with the excellent price performance best suited for corporate departmental systems, to blade servers tailored for server consolidation, concentration and integration. - VMware
VMware® enables the efficient creation of large number of servers on one high-performance server for server consolidation and integration. Such servers must be highly reliable, as problems in such a concentrated system can have a significant impact on all operations. Fujitsu’s virtualization systems allow such optimization of IT investment with VMware and VMware-qualified high-performance, based on the highly reliable PRIMERGY servers.
SAN connection virtualization (SAN: Storage Area Network)
SAN connection virtualization refers to a mechanism that permits dynamic modification of the relationship between servers and storage devices and between servers and disk paths (i.e., the network paths used for disk access). This feature must easily allocate the necessary server and storage resources to each application, without affecting the physical storage environment.
- Introduction to Blade Server virtualization technology
Use of this virtualization technology allows for the easy introduction of blade servers into an existing environment, and also permits the prompt addition of servers or other modifications as needed in response to increased load. In addition, when combined with Fujitsu's Systemwalker Resource Coordinator Virtual Server Edition, this technology provides customers with a stable blade-server operating environment for example, through automatic response in the unlikely event of a failure in a server blade. - Storage virtualization
Storage virtualization can generally be implemented at three levels: software, switches, and arrays.Fujitsu provides several offerings in its portfolio of storage products that complement server virtualization with effective storage virtualization support.
