Fujitsu's Approach to Virtualization

Improved Operability and Availability from System-wide Virtualization. Powerful support for infrastucture optimization.

While pursuing the traditional goals of expansion and cost control, many companies are tackling optimization of their information infrastructures. Fujitsu sees virtualization technology as playing a necessarily and central role in these endeavors.

In fact, virtualization solutions for infrastructure optimization form the nucleus of Fujitsu's IT infrastructure strategies. Drawing on industry-standard and open virtualization technologies, Fujitsu offers a wide variety of application platform choices, from mission-critical systems to support of continually changing structures. In each case, Fujitsu is working to create new value for its customers.

Trends in Virtualization

Virtualization technology grew out of application processing management in mainframe computers. Today, thanks to improved processor performance from multi-core architecture, Linux and Windows servers can also support virtualization software. With availability from a range of vendors; many servers are now equipped with virtualization as a standard operating system function. In addition virtualization has moved out of the processor, and is now finding practical application in storage connections and networking; facilitating easier management and operation of servers throughout an entire system. Such infrastructure virtualization is gradually moving the center of technological innovation towards operation management.

Development of these new technologies, has grown interest in server concentration and integration based on virtualization. In fact, our customers are now anticipating such virtualization and the specific economies and other effects that can be expected. These include, improved IT investment efficiency, power savings, reduced space requirements, a more contiguous use of business assets, and the ability to keep track of and maintain overall control of groups of servers. That is why Fujitsu is investing in virtualization as a powerful tool in tackling the challenges of optimizing IT infrastructures.

Fujitsu's Virtualization Approach

Fujitsu has long been committed to total virtualization - from servers to storage to networks. The aims are, continuity of customer assets, more efficient resource use, and elimination of complexity, all predicated on the basis of greater customer value.
Fujitsu's mainframe experience developed a mass of leading-edge server virtualization technologies. These are now being applied to enhance and provide open de facto server virtualization through collaboration with the various communities and partner vendors. Fujitsu is also focused on the bundling of virtualization technologies to provide very cost effective total operational management. This moves control beyond just server consolidation to incorporate all storage and the network as well. The overall goal being the ready establishment of flexible and easy-to-use customer systems.
