"Compile Error in Hidden Module" error message when you start Word or Excel

A. When you start Word or Excel, you receive a "Compile error in hidden module" error message. This error message appears when the translation function add-in for ATLAS in Word or Excel is not deleted after uninstalling ATLAS. There are two possible solutions listed below.

Solution 1

Reinstall ATLAS and select ATLAS V14.0 - Tools - "Setup Application Translation" (Translation function add-in setup) from the Windows Start menu. Uncheck the box for Excel and click OK.


Solution 2

Follow the steps below to manually delete the translation function add-in.

For WORD

  1. Start Windows search.

    Windows XP:
    Select "Search" - "All Files and Folders" from the Windows start menu.

    Windows ME, Windows 2000:
    Select "Search" - "Files and Folders" from the Windows Start menu.
  2. In the search results window, perform the following steps and press Search.

    Windows XP, 2000:
    In the "All or Part of the File Name" or "Files or folders" fields, enter [*.dot]. In the "Look in" field, enter the drive that the OS is installed on.
  3. From the search results, delete the files included in the list below. Be careful not to delete any files in \sample\coop in the ATLAS installation folder (Ex. C:\program files\ATLAS V14)

    Version of ATLAS and file to be deleted:
    space
    • ATLAS V14: ATLAS140.dot or ATLAS_V14.dotm
    • ATLAS V13: ATLAS130.dot
    • ATLAS V12: ATLAS120.dot
    • ATLAS V11: ATLAS110.dot
    • ATLAS V10: ATLAS100.dot
    • ATLAS V9: ATLAS90.dot

  4. Open Word and select Templates and Add-ins from the Tools menu.
  5. If any files deleted in step 1 remain in the add-in template box select them and press Delete.

For EXCEL

  1. Start Windows search.

    Windows XP:
    Select "Search" - "All Files and Folders" from the Windows start menu.

    Windows 2000:
    Select Search - Files and Folders from the Windows Start menu.
  2. In the search results window, perform the following and press Search.

    Windows XP, 2000:
    In the "All or Part of the File Name" or "Files or folders" fields, enter [*.xla].
    In the "Look in" field, enter the drive that the OS is installed on.
  3. From the search results, delete the files included in the list below. Be careful not to delete any files in \sample\coop in the ATLAS installation folder (Ex. C:\program files\ATLAS V14)

    Version of ATLAS and file to be deleted:
    space
    • ATLAS V14 : ATLAS140.xla or ATLAS_V14.xlam
    • ATLAS V13 : ATLAS130.xla
    • ATLAS V12 : ATLAS120.xla
    • ATLAS V11 : ATLAS110.xla
    • ATLAS V10 : ATLAS100.xla
    • ATLAS V9 : ATLAS90.xla

  4. Open Excel and click the Toolbar tab in "User settings" in the Tools menu If any files deleted in step 1 remain in the toolbar box select them and press Delete. If any files named "ATLAS Vxx" appear in the toolbar box, select them and press Delete.
