Q. Where can I purchase ATLAS?
A. You can purchase ATLAS at computer stores in Japan. If you would like to purchase ATLAS from outside Japan, please contact contact-atlas-en@cs.jp.fujitsu.com.
Q. Does Atlas V14 have both the English and Japanese version in the same package or I have to buy the Enghlish and Japanese version separately?
A. Atlas V14 includes both the English and Japanese version in the same package. The English manual is also included in the CD-ROM in PDF format.
Q. What is included in the ATLAS Super Pack?
A. ATLAS Super Pack contains the following products:
- ATLAS Translation Standard (translation software with a 2.86 million words dictionary)
- ATLAS Technical Dictionaries (28 specialized dictionaries containing 5.57 million words)
Q. What are the prices for ATLAS V14 products?

Q. I have an older version of ATLAS. Can I upgrade?
A. Yes. We provide upgrade kits for older versions of ATLAS. For details, see "Lineup".

Trial Version

Q. Can I try out the product before purchasing it?
A. A trial version ATLAS V14 is currently underway. It will be announced here as soon as it's ready for download. Now you can download ATLAS Double Pack V13 20-Day Trial. For details, see "ATLAS Double Pack V13 20-Day Trial" Download.
Q. Can you send me a CD of the free trial version?
A. We are sorry but we currently are not able to send Trial CDs overseas. You can download a free trial version. For details, see "ATLAS Double Pack V13 20-Day Trial" Download.
Q. Can I try out the Technical Dictionaries with the trial version?
A. No. The Tecnical Dictionaries are not included in the trial version.
Q. Is there a way to try out the Technical Dictionaries?
A. Please send the sentences you wish to translate (10 lines or less) to contact-atlas-en@cs.jp.fujitsu.com and specify the dictionaries you wish to try out. We will send you the translation results. This may take a few days. Please understand that we cannot translate long documents for trial purposes.

Q. What are the differences between ATLAS V14 and V13?
A. For information on improvements from the previous version, please refer to Improvements from V13 to V14.
Q. Are there any differences in functions between the Japanese version of ATLAS and the English version?
A. Available functions differ between the English and Japanese versions. For details, please refer to Function Differences.
Q. What is the level of ATLAS translation quality?
A. While ATLAS translation quality depends on the documents to be translated. High performance can be expected in well-structured sentences such as manuals, technical writings and articles.
Q. How many technical dictionaries and user dictionaries can I use simultaneously?
A. Up to 32 dictionaries can be specified at the same time.
Q. How many examples can I store in Translation Memory?
A.
In ATLAS Double Pack
Approximately 5,000 examples can be registered in Translation Memory.
In ATLAS Super Pack
Approximately 840,000 examples can be registered in Translation Memory.
Q. What are the differences between ATLAS and Accela BizLingo?
A. While ATLAS is the standalone product, Accela BizLingo is for use on an intranet. For details, please refer to Accela BizLingo.

System Requirements

Q. What minimum hardware configuration is required to run ATLAS V14?
A. Hard disk: 570 MB or more
RAM: 128 MB or more
When you use the translation memory function, 512MB of RAM or more recommended.

Q. Which operating systems does ATLAS V14 support?
A. ATLAS V14 supports Microsoft Windows Platform and runs on Windows Vista / XP / 2000 (US / JP).

Troubleshooting

Q. How do I enable displaying of Japanese character (system locale)?
A. In order to display Japanese characters in an English environment, the system locale must be set to Japanese.

Setting System Locale to Japanese

In Windows XP
1. Click the [Start], then select [Control Panel].
2. Click the [Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options] icon.
3. Click the [Regional and Language Options] icon. The [Regional and Language Options] dialog appears.
4. On the [Language] tab, under [Supplemental language support], check the [Install files for East-Asian languages] check box.
5. On the [Advanced] tab, under [Language for non-Unicode programs], select [Japanese].
6. Click the [OK] button.

In Windows 2000
1. Click [Start], then select [Control Panel] from [Settings] menu.
2. Click the [Regional Options] icon.
3. On the [General] tab, under [language settings for the system], select the check box next to [Japanese].
4. Click the [Set default ...] button. The [Select System Locale] dialog appears.
5. From the drop-down list, select [Japanese], and click the [OK] button.
6. Click the [OK] button in the [Regional Options] dialog.

Note: You must be logged on as an administrator or member of the Administrators group to complete this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may also prevent you from completing this procedure.
Q. How do I enable displaying of Japanese character (Acrobat Asian Fonts)?
A. You will need Asian Font Packs in order to display Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files that contain text in Japanese.
You can install Asian Font Packs from the folder below in the Adobe Acrobat CD.
CD drive: Acroread\AsianFontPacks\Japanese\Setup.exe
Q. How do I enable Japanese character converting (IME)?
A. You will need Japanese Kana-Kanji Converting (IME) in order to input Japanese in an English environment.

Installing Japanese Kana-Kanji Converting (IME)

In Windows XP
1. Click [Start], then select [Control Panel].
2. Click the [Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options] icon.
3. Click the [Regional and Language Options] icon. [Regional and Language Options] dialog appears.
4. Confirm that the [Language] tab is set to as follows:
Click the [Details] button on [Installed services], then select [Japanese]on [input language], [Microsoft IME Standard 2002] on [Keyboard layout/IME], then click the [OK] button.
Select [Japanese Input System] on [Japanese-Microsoft IME Standard 2002] on [Default input language].
5. Click the [OK] button.

In Windows 2000
1. Click [Start], then select [Control Panel] from [Settings] menu.
2. Click the [Keyboard] icon.
3. Select the [Input] tab, and click the [Add] button from the [Installed input locales]. The [Installed input locales] dialog appears.
4. Select [Japanese] from [Input locale], and [Japanese Input System (MS-IME2000)] from [Keyboard layout/IME], and click the [OK] button.
5. Select [Japanese] from [Input language] in [Installed input locales], then click the [Set as Default] button.
6. Click the [Properties] button. Specify the settings as required.
7. Click the [OK] button. The [Keyboard Properties] dialog appears.
8. Click the [OK] button.
9. Restart Windows. [Microsoft IME 2000(Japanese)] appears in the task tray after stating Windows. At this time set [Font] to a Japanese font such as [MS Gothic].
Q. After uninstalling ATLAS, the following error message appears when opening or closing Word/Excel files. "Compile error in hidden module: xxxxx".
A. A: The error message appears when the translation function add-in for ATLAS in Word or Excel is not deleted after uninstalling ATLAS. There are two possible solutions listed below.

Solution 1
Reinstall ATLAS and select ATLAS V13.0 - Tools - "Setup Application Translation" (Translation function add-in setup) from the Windows Start menu. Uncheck the box for Excel and click OK.

Solution 2
Follow the steps below to manually delete the translation function add-in.

[For Word]

1) Start Windows search.

Windows XP:
Select "Search" - "All Files and Folders" from the Windows start menu.

Windows ME, Windows 2000:
Select "Search" - "Files and Folders" from the Windows Start menu.

2) In the search results window, perform the following steps and press Search.

Windows 2000, XP:
In the "All or Part of the File Name" or "Files or folders" fields, enter [*.dot].
In the "Look in" field, enter the drive that the OS is installed on.

Windows ME:
In the "Search files or folders" field, enter [*.dot].
In the "Look in" field, enter the Office installation folder.

3) From the search results, delete the files included in the list below. Be careful not to delete any files in \sample\coop in the ATLAS installation folder (Ex: C:\program files\ATLAS V13)

Version of ATLAS and file to be deleted:
ATLAS V13: ATLAS130.dot
ATLAS V12: ATLAS120.dot
ATLAS V11: ATLAS110.dot
ATLAS V10: ATLAS100.dot
ATLAS V9: ATLAS90.dot

4) Open Word and select Templates and Add-ins from the Tools menu.

5) If any files deleted in step 1 remain in the add-in template box select them and press Delete.

[For Excel]

1) Start Windows search.

Windows XP:
Select "Search" - "All Files and Folders" from the Windows start menu.

Windows ME, 2000:
Select Search - Files and Folders from the Windows Start menu.

2) In the search results window, perform the following and press Search.

Windows 2000, XP:
In the "All or Part of the File Name" or "Files or folders" fields, enter [*.xla].
In the "Look in" field, enter the drive that the OS is installed on.

Windows ME:
In the "Search files or folders" field, enter [*.xla].
In the "Look in" field, enter the Office installation folder.

3) From the search results, delete the files included in the list below. Be careful not to delete any files in \sample\coop in the ATLAS installation folder (Ex: C:\program files\ATLAS V13)

Version of ATLAS and file to be deleted:
ATLAS V13 : ATLAS130.xla
ATLAS V12 : ATLAS120.xla
ATLAS V11 : ATLAS110.xla
ATLAS V10 : ATLAS100.xla
ATLAS V9 : ATLAS90.xla

4) Open Excel and click the Toolbar tab in "User settings" in the Tools menu
If any files deleted in step 1 remain in the toolbar box select them and press Delete.
If any files named "ATLAS Vxx" appear in the toolbar box, select them and press Delete.
