Interstage Business Application Manager for .NET
Interstage Business Application Manager for .NET is a middleware product that supports the development and operation of business systems. It applies OLTP technology, refined by Fujitsu during the development of mission-critical systems, to the Microsoft .NET Framework.
Interstage Business Application Manager for .NET has the following features:
Stable system operation
Interstage Business Application Manager for .NET can run multiple applications as a single job (Work Unit or "WU").
It allows effective use of server resources and error recovery for each Work Unit. Specifically, the following functions are
provided to ensure stable system operation:
• Business application management
- Resource pooling
This function can obtain server resources such as processes and threads in advance and reuse them within Work Units in
order to utilize server resources to the maximum extent.
- Business application monitoring
This function can detect errors (abnormal terminations, loops and deadlocks) in business applications at an early stage and
recover applications automatically in order to prevent business processes from being stopped or delayed. In conjunction with
Performance Monitor, it can also monitor system performance and resources in a timely manner to detect bottlenecks at an early
stage. Furthermore, performance statistics are collected at regular intervals, and this information can be used when making
future improvements to business systems.
• Job request control
To prevent sudden fluctuations in the number of requests to a specific job from adversely affecting other jobs, this function
equalizes the load imposed on business applications and ensures that response times remain stable. Individual jobs can also
be prioritized to allow frequently used jobs and important jobs to be executed preferentially.
• Cluster linkage
Linking to the Windows cluster function makes it possible to create highly reliable systems that can operate continuously
for 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Flexible system expansion
Functions are provided to allow business applications to be safely added and maintained without stopping the system.
• Concurrent modification
This function makes it easy to add jobs without affecting existing jobs.
• Concurrent maintenance
Business applications that have been amended can replace associated business applications within a job. Replacement is
synchronized so that the job does not have to stop operating.
Speedy system development
Interstage Business Application Manager for .NET supports the quick and easy development of business applications.
• Development using familiar development environments and languages
The development of business applications can take place in the familiar Microsoft Visual Studio .NET environment using
many types of languages, including Visual Basic, C# and COBOL (NetCOBOL for .NET). Existing resources developed using COBOL
and Visual Basic can also be effectively used in the development of business applications.
• Rich array of debugging functions
It is possible to debug business applications in both standalone environments and server environments. Created business applications
can easily be transferred to the production environment from Microsoft Visual Studio .NET.
• Effective use of existing .NET applications
Because software vendor packages and other applications developed using .NET can be transferred to Work Units without modification,
stable systems can be created easily and safely.
Effective use of existing systems
Functions are provided to link seamlessly with existing business systems constructed in J2EE environments and CORBA environments.
It is easy to link to Interstage and the J2EE products of other vendors and to packages and business systems built on mainframes
without having to make any further modifications. And, because .NET applications for linkage are created automatically based
on J2EE and CORBA interface information, system development and operation are very cost-effective.
