Japanese manufacturing, which has been leading the world by increasing it's share of the pie through automated mass production and low price strategies, faced with increased competition at a global scale and the need to satisfy increasing customers' needs is preparing for revolutionary period of change. For example, to satisfy customers' various demands, the low volume high variety method of manufacturing is very different from the strength of today's manufacturing practices where automation and specialization is used and instead will be a contributing factor towards higher costs. Moreover, recently American and European companies (including EMS) have begun entry into the Japanese market. Within this changing environment, it is necessary for Japanese manufacturers to have one absolute competitive advantage to survive the global competition. Speed, quality and the ability to provide the customer with the right price are some of the competitive advantages. But what we should not forget is that the know how to 'make things' is still very important. In Japan, we have automotive and household appliance manufacturers, to name a few, who have the biggest market share in the world. By integrating manufacturing and IT technology, we plan to maximize our customers' competitive advantage. This is our mission. This is also in respect of the internet becoming societies infrastructure base.
We at Fujitsu, have been proposing to our manufacturing customers glovia.com, an internet compliant ERP solution developed by our 100% owned subsidiary, GLOVIA International LLC. Lately SCM and e-commerce have been the keywords in the practical use of IT but we at Fujitsu think that these are only extensions of ERP. In other words, ERP will become more important in the future as a new business model or as a core for information sharing. glovia.com will be in the center of our solutions to our manufacturing customers and their customers.

As I mentioned earlier, Japan is a great warehouse for manufacturing know how. However, it is used very implicitly and is not standardized very universally. glovia.com has provided Japanese manufacturing functions such as Seiban and material supply function as standard functions. Moreover, we in Fujitsu have also been using glovia.com, 20 sites worldwide. There are also plans to have more Japanese manufacturing functions in the coming version and we plan to continue incorporating our customers' demands with the assistance of GLOVIA International LLC's leading technology and providing them as standard products.
glovia.com was designed and developed with the focus of realizing demands from our discrete manufacturing customers. By understanding manufacturing volume (mass production to BTO), product lifecycle, purchasing & manufacturing lead time etc. of automotive industry, capital equipment industry and electronic industry. we are able to provide solution for such issues as inventory control, increasing profit margin market conformity.
