Power Management LSI for Ultra-Mobile PCs

MB39C308

 MB39C308
MB39C308

Fujitsu Limited has developed a one-chip system power management LSI for ultra-mobile PCs (UMPCs), to supply power to the system, memory, and chipsets in UMPCs (Ultra Mobile PCs). Sample shipments for the new LSI product, MB39C308, started from November 2007.

As an industry first for one-chip integration, this LSI complies with the next version of the LPIA (Low Power Intel Architecture) specification proposed by Intel as a low power platform for UMPCs, and meets the next LPIA platform requirement of a 6 channel DC/DC converter control circuit, while also integrating other peripheral components onto the same single chip. This enables the power management system to be reduced to less than one-third (1/3) the size compared to current products from other companies. Increased efficiency of power supply of this LSI can contribute to extending the operating time of the UMPC's battery.

For UMPCs, it is necessary to supply differing voltages to the processor, chipset memory, and other parts. To extend the operating time of the battery, reduction of power consumed by the processor and high efficiency of the power management LSIs are required. Thus, there is a need for power management LSIs that can enable size reduction of the overall power supply system, including control circuits that can supply a large current with high efficiency from the lithium ion battery.

This new LSI was developed based on such needs, and is the industry's first one-chip power management LSI that conforms to power supply systems specifications necessary for UMPC, as outlined by Intel in the 2008 version of the LPIA platform for UMPCs.This product was jointly developed with Fujitsu VLSI Ltd.

Power Management LSI for Mobile WiMAX devices

MB39C316

 MB39C316
MB39C316

The next-generation Mobile WiMAX technology will be deployed in the United States, Europe, and Taiwan this year, and in Japan next year.
The initial service will be through PC-based mobile broadband access, with simultaneous development of handsets, smart phones, PDAs, portable games and navigation systems.

The MB39C316 is a Power Management LSI, which has
3-channel DC/DC converter and 4-channel LDO.
This product integrates all of necessary power supplies for Mobile WiMAX Chipsets powered by 1-cell Li-ion battery.

The MB39C316 power management IC eliminates all the complex and time-consuming power management requirements by accommodating one cell battery.
This design minimizes the peripheral components outside of the module.
The MB39C316 controls and manages the module's power schemes at the system level, achieving the lowest power consumption at each operation.

DESCRIPTION

MB39A145 is a N-ch/N-ch synchronous rectification type 2ch step-down DC/DC converter IC equipped with a bottom detection comparator for low output voltage ripple. It supports low on-duty operation to allow stable output of low voltages when there is a large difference between input and output voltages. This IC offers stable operations regardless of the ESR or type of the output smoothing capacitor. It also allows the high switching frequency setting, enabling the downsized peripheral circuits and low-cost configuration.

MB39A145 realizes ultra-rapid response and high efficiency with built-in enhanced protection features. It is most suitable for securing the power supply for ASIC or FPGA core, input/output devices, or memory.

2-Channel Synchronous Step-down DC/DC Converter IC

MB39A138

 MB39A318
MB39A138

By adopting the bottom detection comparator method, this product is capable of stable operation and rapid response even with large difference between input and output voltages and rapid load changes. It does not require phase compensation to prevent oscillation. System construction with a small number of parts is enabled through the use of a built-in bootstrap diode, which is required for FET operation.
This product has an output capacity of low voltage of approximately 1.0V with current at 10A or larger. It is capable of providing simultaneous power management to two destinations such as a LSI of core and I/O or a memory.
Its soft-start discharge function also enables simple power management sequence control when multiple voltages are used.

Power Management IC for Portable Devices
1-Channel DC/DC Converter + 1-Channel Low-Noise LDO

MB39C022G/ MB39C022J MB39C022L/ MB39C022N

 MB39C022
MB39C022

An optimal IC for power management systems in portable devices with one built-in channel of DC/DC step-down converter for digital circuits and one built-in channel of low-noise LDO for analog circuits.

The DC/DC conversion circuit adopts the PFM/PWM mode to improve efficiency under light load. The current mode architecture is also adopted to achieve high-speed load response. The LDO circuit is optimal for power supplies of analog circuits such as RF circuit as it satisfies the low-noise requirement.

It can also be used in products adopting one cell of Li-ion battery as the power supply, the input voltage range is from 2.5V to 5.5V.

Two power management systems of a DC/DC Converter and LDO is in a 10-pin package of 3.0mm x 3.0mm. The built-in switching FET enable the construction of a power management system at a low BOM cost. There are four variations of the fixed output voltage in the LDO block.

4-Channel DC/DC Converter IC for LCD Panels

MB39C313

 MB39C313
MB39C313

A system power management IC capable of supplying the four types of voltages required in LCD panels in a single chip.

This product is a system power management IC with a built-in 4-channel power management control block.

It consists of a 2-channel DC/DC converter with switching FET for large current operation and a 2-channel charge pump type DC/DC converter. The DC/DC converter block offers excellent stability against input voltage fluctuations with the input voltage feed-forward method.

The output voltage in the charge pump circuit block can be set by an external resistor using the output voltage feedback method. This product contributes to a reduction in the parts cost as a result of the built-in switching FET and phase compensator.
