30 June 2005 UK: Fujitsu Announces Global Launch of its Contactless Palm Vein Authentication Technology
London, June 30, 2005 – Fujitsu Europe Limited, one of the world’s leading suppliers of hard disk drives and computer peripherals and a market leader in document management scanners, today announced its new contactless palm vein authentication device to the EMEA market as part of Fujitsu´s global launch. Washington, D.C., June 27, 2005 – Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA), a leading provider of robust wireline and wireless solutions that enhance the performance of next-generation communications networks in North America, and MiTAC Technology Corporation (MTC), a leader in the electronics original design manufacturing industry, today announced that MiTAC will use the Fujitsu WiMAX System-on-Chip (SoC) to develop and manufacture MiTAC's WiMAX Customer Premise Equipment (CPE). Fujitsu has shipped its WiMAX SoCs, the MB87M3400, to MiTAC to incorporate them into MiTAC's CPEs.
22 June 2005 Japan: Chiba Institute of Technology To Implement World's First Student I.D. System Using Fujitsu Palm Vein Authentication Technology with Smart Cards to Securely Access Student Records
Tokyo, June 22, 2005 – Chiba Institute of Technology, Fujitsu Limited, and Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. today announced that the Chiba Institute of Technology will deploy the world's first student I.D. system that combines contactless palm vein authentication technology from Fujitsu and multi-functional smart cards manufactured by Dai Nippon Printing (DNP), to verify the identity of students and enable them to securely access their academic transcripts and other personal records through information kiosk terminals installed at various set locations on campus. This system will be operating from July 1, 2005.

11 May 2005 Japan: The University of Tokyo Hospital Deploys Fujitsu's Contactless Palm Vein Authentication Technology for Room Access Security
Tokyo, May 11, 2005 – Fujitsu Limited today announced its development of a room access security system utilizing its contactless palm vein authentication technology, for the room access security of the Department of Planning, Information and Management of the University of Tokyo Hospital. The University of Tokyo Hospital's deployment represents the world's first implementation of Fujitsu's palm vein authentication technology by a university or hospital for room access security.

7 April 2005 US: Fujitsu Microelectronics of America Names Kazuyuki Kawauchi New President, Chief Executive Officer
Sunnyvale, CA, April 7, 2005 – Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA) today announced that Kazuyuki Kawauchi has been named president and chief executive officer. Kawauchi assumes his new post effective April 1, the beginning of the company's fiscal year. He replaces Kazuo "Ken" Iida, who becomes an advisor to Fujitsu Microelectronics America and will remain in the United States for a year.

7 March 2005 US: Fujitsu Announces that ALT Software Will Develop OpenGL Embedded Software Platform for Fujitsu's Coral-P/PA Graphics Controller

7 March 2005 US: Fujitsu Fingerprint Sensors Selected by Shimon Systems for Verification Reference Design Based on TI's DSP Technology
San Francisco, CA, March 7, 2005 – The Fujitsu MBF200 single touch sensor and MBF310 Sweep Sensor™ have been selected for a new fingerprint-verification reference design module developed by Shimon Systems and based on DSP technology from Texas Instruments Incorporated, it was announced today. 7 February 2005 Japan: Fujitsu Develops Multi-core Processor for High-Performance Digital Consumer Products
Tokyo, February 7, 2005 – Fujitsu Laboratories, Ltd. today announced the development of a single-chip multi-core processor designed for image processing use in high-performance digital consumer products, that is equipped with four FR-V processor cores (FR550) with operation frequencies of 533 megahertz (MHz). Using software only, the new multi-core processor features image processing functionality at speeds of 51.2 GOPS (giga operations per second) and data transfer performance at speeds of 1 gigabyte per second (GB/s), both which are four or more times greater than that of the conventional FR-V processor. This new multi-core processor is suited for wide application, in that by utilizing only software it enables image processing that in the past required customized large-scale integrated circuit chips (LSIs), and offers high performance and flexibility to adapt easily to specification modifications, version upgrades, and added features.
7 February 2005 Japan: Sharp and Fujitsu Announce Agreement on Transfer of Fujitsu's LCD Business
Tokyo, February 7, 2005 – Sharp Corporation and Fujitsu Limited today announced that they have entered into a basic agreement regarding the transfer of Fujitsu's liquid crystal display (LCD) operations to Sharp. The agreement calls for Fujitsu to transfer to Sharp the LCD research and development, manufacturing and sales operations of its consolidated subsidiary, Fujitsu Display Technologies Corporation (FDTC), along with related R&D equipment at Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. As a result of the transfer, Sharp is expected to take on FDTC's personnel and Yonago Plant in Tottori Prefecture, as well as Fujitsu Laboratories' personnel involved in FDTC-related R&D, and related intellectual property rights held by the Fujitsu Group. Sharp and Fujitsu are now discussing details of a definitive agreement, which they expect to complete in March.

2 February 2005 Japan: Fujitsu Announces Agreement with Hitachi on Plasma Display Panel Business
Tokyo, February 2, 2005 – Fujitsu Limited today announced that it has reached a basic agreement with Hitachi, Ltd. regarding Fujitsu's transfer to Hitachi of 30.1% of the issued shares in their joint venture company, Fujitsu Hitachi Plasma Display Limited (FHP), along with related plasma display panel (PDP) intellectual property rights. The companies intend to sign a formal agreement finalizing the arrangements by the end of March, at which time the specified intellectual property rights will be transferred to Hitachi. After providing financial support aimed at eliminating FHP's excessive debt, the companies plan to complete the transfer of shares, following which FHP will become a consolidated subsidiary of Hitachi.
1 February 2005 Japan: Fujitsu to Use Biodegradable Plant-based Materials for All of Its Embossed Carrier Tape Used in Packing for Reel-based Shipment of LSIs
Tokyo, February 1, 2005 – Fujitsu Limited today announced that it will shift completely to the use of biodegradable plant-based materials for the manufacture of embossed carrier tape, used for packing large-scale integrated circuit chips (LSIs) when shipping them on reels (Figure 1, Figure 2). Fujitsu expects an 11% reduction in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by employing biodegradable plant-based materials to produce embossed carrier tape, in place of polystyrene, a material which was conventionally used in the industry

21 January 2005 Japan and Germany: Fujitsu and HHI Develop World's First Ultra High-Speed Optical Fiber Switch with Power Amplification Features
Tokyo and Berlin, January 21, 2005 – Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. and Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications, Heinrich-Hertz-Institut (HHI) today announced their development of the world's first ultra high-speed optical fiber switch with optical amplification features using nonlinear optical effects of optical fiber, and succeeded in ultra high-speed optical signal processing at 640 gigabits per second (Gbps). The newly developed optical fiber switch features amplification capabilities of 100 times and more over a wide wavelength range, and enables ultra high-speed switching at over 1 terabit per second.
