The design and manufacture of ETERNUS storage system comes from selecting and assembling the right high quality components, with the greatest of care, based on the concept that the resulting storage system should never stop whatever happens.
Every hard disk drive installed in ETERNUS is fully verified to ensure its qualities reach the levels that "Fujitsu Quality" demands. System verification for example, includes activation tests following 24-hours in sub-zero temperatures(-35℃) and operational tests in environments that reach 100℃ and 92% humidity for 24-hours. Continuity of processors is assured by conducting 40,000 simulated-error tests. And temperature cycle tests, voltage and clock margin tests are performed on the storage system itself.
Only storage systems that pass all such stringent tests are delivered to customers.

As businesses grow and data retention requirements change, the need for secure high-capacity storage has become an operational imperative. ETERNUS storage systems are an excellent growth choice as they provide the world's largest capacity of 1.36 PB in a single storage system.
However, raw storage capacity has little benefit if the data is not able to be quickly retrieved when needed. ETERNUS storage systems use 4Gbps fibre channel interfaces and disk I/O rates 2.5 times that of previous SPC Benchmark-1 test world record holding models (*Note 1). ETERNUS storage systems support lower cost options such as iSCSI. This enables remote data transfer using SCSI adapters and less expensive public communication technology such as FTTH (Fibre to the Home).
Security issues implicit in using such public circuits are also covered by the availability of IPsec encryption on all communication paths. Therefore ETERNUS storage systems achieve both security assurance and cost-effectiveness.

ETERNUS storage systems also support the mixing of Ultra-high speed and Nearline FC disk drives in the same cabinet. Nearline FC disk drives are an excellent lower cost option for fast access to less frequently used data previously archived to less accessible tape library systems.
