Fujitsu has verified that its ETERNUS disk storage system's Eco mode function using MAID (Massive Array Idle Disks) technology, successfully cooperates with IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Space Management (TSM HSM).
TSM HSM software provides hierarchical storage management functions that enable transparent access control in moving less frequently accessed files to lower cost back-end storage.
In this verification, an ETERNUS disk storage system with Eco mode function was used as the backend (where disks not in use could be spun down). Client files on TSM HSM installed Windows and Solaris servers were moved to this backend, from where they could be recalled when needed. This ensured transparent access wherever the flies were located.
Such hierarchical storage management functions reduce total storage cost of ownership and optimize data utilization efficiency. In addition, the Eco mode function reduces power consumption and cooling costs.
This result adds another new Green IT solution option for today's burgeoning Green IT requirements.
