Energy-saving operation

Fujitsu's MAID (Massive Array of Idle Disks ) based Eco-mode function, which activates disk drives only when needed, further enhances the power conservation features of ETERNUS disk storage construction. When disks are no needed they can be stopped from spinning to reduce their power consumption.
Eco-mode operation can be applied to individual RAID groups allowing specific operations such as backup to be scheduled at the RAID group level. Disks under Eco-mode can also be adjustably stopped for specific periods. Disks that have been stopped need less than a minute to restart when a disk access request is received.

RoHS compliant / Lead-free solders

ETERNUS is compliant with the RoHS directive, adopted by the European Union that restricts the use of specific hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment, including lead, hexavalent chromium, mercury, cadmium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE).

The solder used on all printed circuit boards within ETERNUS4000 and ETERNUS8000 is also lead-free.

Green products

ETERNUS4000 and ETERNUS8000 are green products that meet Fujitsu's stringent environment assessment standards including resource savings and recyclable design.
In addition, ETERNUS8000 model 1200 and model 2200 over achieved by 700% the Japanese power saving evaluation standard (2007) [when using 300GB (15,000rpm), 1TB disk drives]. This shows the environmental friendliness of ETERNUS disk storage systems and their ability to reach Super Green product status.
