High-speed backup

Fully tested combinations of AdvancedCopy functions of ETERNUS4000 / ETERNUS8000 and cooperative software (*Note 1) ensure the creation of reliable copy volumes during application operation. These same copy volumes can then be used for subsequent tape backup.
Use of such reliable copied volumes also ensures original volume failures can be quickly recovered.
Support for nearline SATA disk drives as copy volumes delivers D2D (Disk to Disk) backup at lower cost.

Disaster recovery

The Remote Advanced Copy function, an extension of the AdvancedCopy function, enables data replication between remotely located multiple ETERNUS disk storage systems independent of server operation. Both synchronous and asynchronous replication methods are supported and can be matched to applications. In addition, the ability to dispersing replicated data to different locations allows even higher levels of disaster recovery to be achieved.

ETETRNUS4000 and ETERNUS8000 remote replication supports both SAN - WAN - SAN and LAN - WAN - LAN connection methods using iSCSI remote interfaces. IPsec (Security Architecture for Internet Protocol) supported iSCSI is used. As IPsec encrypts data on transfer, low-cost IP lines can be used for disaster recovery system configuration.
With ETERNUS8000 IP lines can also be used for the "RFCF-EX (RBS mode) function (*Note 2)“, which provides disaster recovery capability for GlobalServer system environments.

Data encryption

Data is encrypted on writing using the 128bitAES (*Note 3) method and Fujitsu's unique encryption method. This prevents information leakage due to unauthorized data reading and access when data is being transported on backup media or on replaced disk drives.
