Large capacity online disk support on ETERNUS disk storage systems

The sale of ETERNUS disk storage systems with 450GB (15,000rpm) online disk drives (*Note 1) commenced on January 28, 2009.
This broadens the choice of disk drives beyond the 300GB / 146GB (15,000rpm) high-speed and highly-reliability online disk
drives, and 1TB / 750GB / 500GB (7,200rpm) high-capacity and low-cost nearline disk drives (*Note 2) currently available.
In addition, with ETERNUS2000 model 200, the number of mountable disk drives has been increased from 72 to 120 (*Note 3).
Flexible use of disk drives matched to application characteristics enables better storage system tailoring as well as the accommodation of data growth, while providing a best balance between cost and performance.
These same ETERNUS disk storage systems provide an Eco-mode function which stops the spinning of selected disk drives. Scheduling Eco-mode for backup destinations in D2D (Disk to Disk) backup operations or with infrequently accessed data, helps further reduce power consumption and operating costs.
