Setting the Standards for Mission Critical UNIX

Feature Story

May 27, 2005

The latest performance kicker to PRIMEPOWER servers shows once again that underlying architecture is key to maximizing resource life and return on investment. Not only does the latest upgrade, to 2+ GHz SPARC64 V RISC processors, enable Fujitsu to recapture the No.1 position in the 2-tier SAP® SD Standard Application Benchmark by setting a new score of 21,000 concurrent users as at April 2005*, but also it shows how Fujitsu PRIMEPOWER sets and maintains the standard for mission critical business processing on UNIX®.

Significant is PRIMEPOWER’s continued impressive linear scalability. As raw processor power is added PRIMEPOWER’s balanced design delivers equivalent amounts of business performance. PRIMEPOWER has redefined the standards for hardware running the Solaris™ Operating System and provides the ongoing input and basis for next generation advanced servers in this important market segment.

PRIMEPOWER’s focus, reliability and flexible operating characteristics follow Fujitsu’s TRIOLE optimized IT infrastructure strategy that ensures business systems are more agile, efficient and stable for maximum customer benefit. This makes it eminently suitable for a broad range of commercial applications including business critical database, online transaction processing (OLTP) and financial management environments.

World beating usable performance

PRIMEPOWER 2500 with a full complement of SPARC64™ V processors again recaptured the world’s No.1 position in a major financial application benchmark. Benchmark comparison of large scale servers using 1.35 GHz and 2.08 GHz processors showed a measured performance result improvement of 1.6 times the initial benchmark. That is line-ball with the 1.6 increase in processor clock speed between the two processors. This would be reasonably impressive on a single processor system, but the fact that it was achieved on a 128 processor symmetrical multi-processing environment is testimony to PRIMEPOWER’s outstanding design scalability and the effective usable power available for maximum customer benefit.
