Feature Story

| With the world of Utility Computing on the horizon, Fujitsu is positioning its PRIMEPOWER servers as the most robust, scalable and reliable in the world. |
New small and mid sized PRIMEPOWER servers mean reliability and stability are no longer options.
The launch of the new workgroup and mid range PRIMEPOWER servers from Fujitsu sees the completion of work started over
two years ago. That was to produce a range of UNIX® servers with the reliability and stability characteristics as developed
over many years of mainframe manufacture. Starting with high-end Enterprise PRIMEPOWER this was achieved in conjunction with
the announcement of
SPARC™ V processors in October 2002.
Now the same technology has been transferred to workgroup and mid range systems of Fujitsu's PRIMEPOWER range. This
means all PRIMEPOWER servers have, as standard, levels of reliability and stability only previously possible with high-end
systems.
The new PRIMEPOWER 250, 450, 650 and 850 models scale from 2 to 16 processors, and come with a range of autonomic (Note) and high availability features that complement
the new high performance GHz class SPARC64™ V processors.
This level of robustness and flexibility will be a great boon for the use of smaller servers in the mission critical
areas of Utility computing and other 24 x 7 environments.
Anywhere Anytime Availability
With Utility Computing you don't need to know where the resources you are using are located or configured. But it is
very likely you need to know that they are available. This 24 x 7 operational paradigm is fundamental to the growth
of businesses in the broadband Internet age. Central to this are platform components that can operate 24 x 7 at minimum
cost. This is because many computers no longer just provide internal business support for a part of a company. They
provide the interface to customers, suppliers and business partners. In other words they must always be "on". They
must also operate at maximum performance and provide high levels of usage flexibility.
Note:PRIMEPOWER provides self-healing, error correction and management systems and circuits as standard.
These are independent of the operating system and any external
systems management and monitoring systems. They ensure the highest levels
of hardware reliability and stability for all components.
