Fujitsu and Oracle set new world record in SPECjAppServer®2002 MultipleNode benchmark

7th September 2004

The excellent all-round performance of PRIMEPOWER and Oracle® Application Server 10g have combined to deliver a significant leap in mission critical environment performance; as measured by the industry standard SPECjAppServer®2002 MultipleNode benchmark. Once again Fujitsu PRIMEPOWER hardware environments prove they are the natural choice for users of large databases and mission-critical applications.

Established at Fujitsu group’s facilities in Europe, Solaris™/SPARC®64V-based Fujitsu PRIMEPOWER 450/2500 servers running Oracle Application Server 10g together with Oracle Database 10g enabled an Oracle record result 33 per cent above all previous contenders.

In this, Oracle Application Server 10g together with Oracle Database 10g achieved a world record 5,991.73 TOPS@MultipleNode (Total Operations Per Second) with a price-performance of 654.20 Euros/TOPS@MultipleNode.

The database ran on a Fujitsu 56 x SPARC64V 1.3 GHz processor PRIMEPOWER 2500 server, with 9 PRIMEPOWER 450 J2EE application servers each with 4 SPARC64V 1.32 GHz processors. All servers were running the Solaris 9 operating environment.

A comparative SPECjAppServer®2002 MultipleNode benchmark using the same hardware configuration, but with Oracle9i Database Release 2, Oracle Application Server 10g achieved 5,221.63 TOPS with a price-performance of 750.68 Euros/TOPS@MultipleNode. This result ranks second in MultipleNode performance and shows that switching to Oracle Database 10g can provide a performance increase of nearly 15 percent.

SPECjAppServer®2002 is a client/server benchmark for measuring the performance of Java™ 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EETM) - based application servers using a subset of J2EE APIs in a complete end-to-end Java application. It is the only industry-accepted benchmark to measure J2EE platform performance connecting into a database and is designed to model a manufacturing, supply-chain management and order/inventory environment.
