Fujitsu and Sun Microsystems Executive Message
SPARC Enterprise T5440 - Highest in throughput computing performance -
14th October 2008
Fujitsu and Sun Microsystems have released a new best of breed throughput computing model, the SPARC Enterprise T5440 with
UtraSPARC T2 Plus processors.
On this page Noriyuki Toyoki, President of Server Systems Unit, Fujitsu and John Fowler, Executive Vice President, Sun Microsystems
talk about the strategic partnership and the new SPARC Enterprise T5440.

John Fowler:
Fujitsu & Sun Microsystems are long time strategic partner of over 20 years. We share a successful relationship collaborating
on the design and marketing of SPARC/Solaris servers. Today, we discuss the Sun/Fujitsu alliance and the new SPARC Enterprise
T5440 server.

Noriyuki Toyoki:
Fujitsu is very excited about having the opportunity to offer the SPARC Enterprise T5440 server to our customers. About a
year and a half ago, Sun and Fujitsu announced the Joint offering of UltraSPARC T1-based server line. Today, we expand our
throughput computing lineup with this market changing system, the third generation SPARC Enterprise T5440 server.

John Fowler:
Many people may not know this, but our throughput computing business is a billion dollar business today. In less than three
years throughput computing servers have delivered up to three times faster performance generation to generation out scaling
the competition. The market is taking notice of throughput computing and our customers are experiencing real business benefits
from the technology.

Noriyuki Toyoki:
We are seeing tremendous customer excitement and increase in sales on the throughput computing products. This makes us even
more excited about the new SPARC Enterprise T5440 server, suitable for server consolidation bringing 32 cores running 256
threads and 512GB of memory in just 4U. SPARC Enterprise T5440 server delivers the scalability and reliability of traditional
mid-range systems plus the breakthrough performance and eco efficiency of Sun's proven open-source throughput computing architecture.
Never before has a system this powerful and this feature rich been available at this price point.
John Fowler:
The SPARC Enterprise T5440 server is redefining mid-range computing and changing IT economics. Customers faced with limited
space, power and cooling can use T5440's and no cost virtualization technologies to consolidate traditional mid-range application
loads such as database, CRM (Customer Relationship Management) and more onto the T5440 4U footprint. This system is up to
4 times faster, up to 2 times the performance per watt and as little as one fifth the cost of competing systems. So now there
are no excuses for customers not to take a look at this system. Solaris containers and LDOMs are all packaged in the T5440
so virtualization is built right in and free.
Noriyuki Toyoki:
Companies need to scale fast and always stay ahead of the competition. Because the T5440 has a great price point, rapidly
growing companies have the performance and reliability of a mid-range server now available to them. They can run more applications
today and virtualize future work loads onto a single system as their business and service offerings grow.

John Fowler:
Now that Fujitsu has a full line of throughput computing offerings, how well do you think the T5440 will address your customer's
business demands?

Noriyuki Toyoki:
We firmly believe in throughput computing technology and are confident that the new T5440 will meet our customers' demands
for resolving critical business and the datacenter requirements such as space, power and cooling limitations.

John Fowler:
How well do you think this new system will help Fujitsu increase server sales?

Noriyuki Toyoki:
The T5440 will be a welcome addition to our SPARC Enterprise server family. It demonstrates the continued innovation and collaboration
we are committed to delivering to customers. The T5440 also gives us opportunities into emerging companies who are looking
to build and/or grow their enterprise datacenters. We now have products that can address their scalability, reliability and
economic challenges.
John Fowler:
Absolutely. This system also demonstrates the commitment Fujitsu and Sun Microsystems have in delivering true customer value
that can be only measured by the positive results our customers are experiencing in their business.
Noriyuki Toyoki:
Yes, that is correct. I want to thank you John for the opportunity to be here today and to formally welcome the T5440 to our
SPARC Enterprise family of products.

John Fowler:
Thank you Toyoki-san. For more information about the SPARC Enterprise servers please visit Sun and Fujitsu's web site.
