In the 18 months since the original launch, Fujitsu and Sun have jointly introduced 11 SPARC Enterprise servers. The Sun/Fujitsu relationship has continued to strengthen SPARC in the marketplace and Tatsuo Tomita was invited to show how this relationship will continue to grow and benefit customers.

Mr. Tatsuo Tomita, Fujitsu
“We are seeing increased momentum of existing SPARC Enterprise servers and the introduction of the T5440 makes the joint Sun
and Fujitsu product offering even stronger”
The T5440 offers customers more midrange computing choice but it does not mean it will replace the M series portfolio. Both
series allow customers to find the optimal solution for their various business needs.
“For customers that need mainframe class systems, with high scalability for single threaded and batch workloads, we will continue
to offer enhancements to the SPARC64 Enterprise product line.
In July 2008, we introduced the SPARC64 VII processor, this gave customers 80% faster performance with commercial workloads.
Customers were also able to take advantage of this great performance boost without any additional component upgrades.”
In terms of further enhancements Mr. Tomita indicated the following development plans:
“By the end of this month, an expansion to the [M series] product line will be announced.”
“as part of our ongoing development policy we plan subsequent enhancements of the SPARC64 processors to ensure continuous
added value from the SPARC Enterprise line.”
“Just as we have done in the past, there will be no need to upgrade any components in current systems to take advantage of
the new processors. This makes their deployment easy and economical. Just buy the new processors and slide them into your
existing system. No downtime. No additional costs beyond the processor investment.”

Mr. Tatsuo Tomita, Fujitsu
Sun and Fujitsu have a great track record with “in box” upgrades that protect customer investments in existing systems. In addition ongoing and guaranteed binary compatibility further protects customer software investments.

After the launch Tatsuo Tomita shakes hands with Jonathan Schwartz and John Fowler on the success of the SPARC Enterprise T5440 launch and the ongoing strategic partnership.
