Eco-Friendly Server proves its superior performance
SPARC Enterprise T5220 achieves No.1 position in SPECweb2005

9th November 2007

As a UNIX standard entry-level server, SPARC Enterprise has prove its high performance capability across a wide range of applications. Web servers, application servers and online transaction processing are all very well served, while operational costs are significantly lowered. The excellent recorded SPARC Enterprise T5120 and T5220 performances in the following three official benchmarks show the outstanding power of these systems.

  • No.1 in web server benchmark (SPECweb®2005)
  • Highest entry class server achievement in Java application benchmark (SPECjbb®2005)
  • Excellent two-tier SAP® Sales and Distribution (SD) Standard Application Benchmark result. This is the first system running 2,175 SAP SD Benchmark users on one processor / 8 cores / 64 threads, showing more than 10,000 SAPS per processor.
(For the detail, refer to “Remarks: Benchmark test results and test environments”)

Power & space saving SPARC Enterprise T5120/T5220, deliver overwhelming performance & server cost reductions.

High benchmark results in Web, Java and two-tier SAP SD Standard Application Benchmark

SPARC Enterprise has the highest all-round performance in SPECweb2005

SPARC Enterprise T5220 recorded the top web server benchmark in its class with a score of 37,001 in SPECweb2005. That is 2.3 times above a SPARC Enterprise T2000, and approx. 4.7 times better than an IBM System p5 550.

Figure 1 : SPECweb2005 comparison

A Java application platform able to compete with mid-range server performance (SPECjbb2005)

In SPECjbb2005, SPARC Enterprise T5120 has recorded 170,153 SPECjbb2005 bop/s. This is the highest result in the 8 core or less server class (with one JVM in the SPECjbb2005 test environment). In the 8 cores server class, SPARC Enterprise T5120 provided around 1.2 times the performance on an HP Integrity rx6600, and around 1.9 times the performance of an IBM p5 550Q.

Excellent results on two-tier SAP SD Standard Application Benchmark

In the two-tier SAP SD Standard Application Benchmark, SPARC Enterprise T5120 recorded a result of 2,175 SAP SD Benchmark users. This shows T5120 performance is around twice that of T2000 and betters a 4 CPU HP Integrity rx6600 (8 cores) result.

UltraSPARC T2 Innovation

Server operational cost reductions

With 64 threads on each CPU chip, SPARC Enterprise T5120/ T5220 provides twice the performance of SPARC Enterprise T1000/T2000 servers. This excellent performance is matched by extended server scalability in I/O slots, disks and memory, making SPARC Enterprise a top server consolidation platform based on Solaris Containers.

In comparison with other venders’ 1U/2U servers and those of similar performance, SPARC Enterprise T5120/T5220 is configured to significantly reduce power consumption and reduce heat generation.

Using Solaris Containers, SPARC Enterprise lets you reduce your server count for Web and application server deployment by providing much superior performance while reducing power consumption/heat generation/server space on a per server comparison. As a result, dramatic performance and cost improvements can be achieved.

  • Saving more with SPARC Enterprise
With 1.2 times more performance than an HP Integrity rx6600, a T5220 consumes around 60 percent less power and occupies less than 15 per cent of the space, resulting in overwhelming cost saving advantages.

The innovation continues

SPARC Enterprise T5120/T5120 have improved high reliability and cost saving capability compared with T1000 and T2000. The new 65 nm semiconductor technology has enabled enhanced multi-core/multi-thread technology and allowed all I/O controllers to be integrated on the same CPU chip. This system on chip design means improved reliability, improved system utilization efficiency, high performance and enhanced cost-saving functionality.

SPARC Enterprise, jointly developed by Fujitsu and Sun, is the new standard in SPARC/Solaris servers. Through their innovation and R&D, both companies continue their quest to provide customers with the highest value and practical application through integration of their leading technologies.
