In a client/server system a user needs to access data from his or her personal workstation without regard to where that data is held:- be it on the users PC; another workstation; an NT server; UNIX system or a mainframe system.

In GlobalServers, software is available to support access from a PC to mainframe based application or data. The type of data to be accessed from the mainframe, and the means of access from a PC workstation may vary. In the diagram above you can click on either type of data or the means of access to view descriptions of the software facilities available to help achieve this.
