Compact Size Server PRIMERGY TX120 approved as "Super Green Product"
- Equivalent to CO2 absorption of 46 cedar trees per year, reducing CO2 emission by 37% throughout its lifecycle -
Fujitsu Limited has recognized its PRIMERGY TX120, a compact size server with the world's smallest footprint, as a "Super Green Product". It reduces CO2 emission by 37% throughout its lifecycle. 54 products have been approved, including this, as Super Green Products by fiscal year 2006.
The Compact Size Server PRIMERGY TX120 is an environment-conscious product which fulfills customer needs with low power consumption, space saving design and whisper-quiet operation while also maintaining the toughness essential to servers to operate 24/7 to keep business running.
Fujitsu group will continue contributing to the global environment by providing customers with environment-friendly differentiated products and expanding Super Green Products which are strengthening energy and resource saving and measures against chemical materials.
Recently, the environmental problems have been a major issue as various forms of highly unusual weather occur worldwide and international regulations including Kyoto Protocol are enforced. Business enterprises and local governments are shifting to focus on green procurement as demands for providing environment-conscious products are increasing.
Fujitsu group has been putting efforts in developing the Super Green Products in accordance with the 4th stage of "Environmental
Protection Program of Fujitsu Group (FY2004 to FY2006)" (*1). A "Super Green Product" is a product which meets the premises of Fujitsu group's "Green Product" (*2) and is recognized as a top level product in either environment-conscious factors such as "energy saving", "3R design
and technology", "free of specified hazardous substances", and "materials and technology contributing to the environment".
The Compact Size Server PRIMERGY TX120 is approved as a Super Green Product, being recognized for its energy and resource
saving design and reduction of CO2 emission throughout its lifecycle.
Features of environment-conscious design of Compact Size Server PRIMERGY TX120
This product aims to be the leading standard of the industry with full commitment from the product planning stage. It reflects demanding customer needs for advanced product performance such as energy saving, space saving, and quiet operation, and also reduced environmental load.
Low power consumption, aimed to be kept at a low level as a typical desktop PC, is realized by adopting low power consuming components and controlling fan rotation which leads to high standard in energy conservation. It also makes a significant contribution to resource saving by downsizing the heat sink and power supply unit while also maintaining minimum scalability based on past customer usage results.
Effects of reduced environmental load of Compact Size Server PRIMERGY TX120
The effects of reduced environmental load is quantitatively checked by comparing TX120 with PRIMERGY TX150, an entry level server of the same level launched in June 2003, using the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method (*3).
- Energy saving effect
Power consumption during operation (converted to power consumption while idle) is reduced by 39%. Electrical bills are reduced by 32,000 Japanese yen for household and 16,000 Japanese yen for commercial business throughout its lifecycle.
[Conversion factor: 22 Japanese yen per kWh for household, 10.93 Japanese yen per kWh for commercial business (in Japan)]. - Resource saving effect
Significant contribution to resource saving as physical volume is reduced by 75% and installation footprint is reduced by 68%. Metal usage such as steel, aluminum, and copper plate which make up approximately 70% of the product mass is reduced by 65% and CO2 emission is reduced by 67%. - Effect of CO2 emission reduction throughout its lifecycle
CO2 emission is reduced by 37% throughout its lifecycle. 644kg- CO2 is reduced per server. This is equivalent to CO2 absorption of 46 cedar trees per year which is about 575m2 of cedar forest space. This is also equivalent to burning 273 liters of gasoline, or 14 20-liter tanks.
[Conversion factor: 14kg of CO2 absorption per cedar tree, 12.5m2 per cedar tree]
[Conversion factor: 2.36kg of CO2 emission per burning 1 liter of gasoline] - Improvement of Eco-efficiency
Achieve Eco-efficiency factor (*4) of 6.5 by reducing the effects on the environment by 37% and improving CPU performance by 4.1 times which is a large factor in composing product performance. This Eco-efficiency is 6 times better than the traditional PRIMERGY TX150.
Fujitsu group will continue providing Super Green Product to our customers by actively engaging in activities to reduce environmental burden from the early stages of product planning and designing for the quest to incorporate customers' requirements and environmental-friendliness into our products.

Note: All parameters and calculations are calculated in the Japanese market
(*1): 4th stage of Environmental Protection Program of Fujitsu Group
It is a program which covers targets to be fulfilled from FY2004 to the end of FY2006 based on "Fujitsu Group Environmental Policy". It develops activities targeted to making environmentally friendly products, enhancing green procurement, recycling of disposed products, reduction of resource/energy usage and disposal.
(*2): Green Product
Products that meet the requirements of "green product evaluation standard" which take in the strict global environment measures and reaches over 90 points for Fujitsu's product environmental assessment regulations.
(*3): Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
A method to quantitatively evaluate the environment impact of the product in terms of CO2 emission and etc..., throughout the product's lifecycle starting from materials/components/product manufacturing, distribution, product usage, and disposal/recycle.

(*4): Eco-efficiency factor
Eco-efficiency is a concept that can simultaneously indicate environmental load and value/service. At Fujitsu group, "Eco-efficiency
factor" is indicated with rate of reduction of CO2 emission throughout the product lifecycle as the denominator, and rate of improvement of basic specifications comparing the
new and old products for product value as the numerator.
Eco-efficiency factor
= (rate of improvement of product value)
/ (rate of reduction of CO2 emission throughout the product lifecycle)
