Nearly all PRIMERGY servers and peripherals and most teamservers can be mounted in cost effective (40U, 36U or 24U) industry standard 19-inch enclosures.

Key advantages of rack usage come from:

  • The security of having lockable enclosures for processors and data storage
  • Real floor-space savings as many components are now housed together
  • A more centralized approach to the management of your computer assets
Secure enclosures for the office

Support is easy with good access, sliding rackmount fittings and the ability to deploy in a data center configuration. Cost savings come from better floor space usage and from placing your hardware assets closer to the support expertise in your organisation.

PRIMERGY rack optimized servers

With the increase in the use of Intel(R) technology for more and more mission critical computing tasks, servers can no longer be thought of as just office equipment.
Examples of the changes that are occurring that may make you consider rackmounting are:

  1. The move to Data Centres where all the computing power of an organization can be centralized and better managed in a single place.
  2. The use of a single server type in redundant configurations where whole server replacement is the standard unit of redundancy.
  3. The requirement for larger and larger disk storage systems making normal office environments no longer the best deployment option.
  4. The requirement to have complete configurations of servers and disk nodes together in a secure unit for clustering and dedicated application processing.

24U and 40U racks (Slim)

Internal Width: 19" (Industry standard)
Internal Depth: Over 800mm, Provides plenty of room for access, cabling and internet connections.
Internal Height: 24U or 40U. (1U=1 3/4inches=44.5mm)
External Width: 600mm
External Depth: 900mm
External Height: 2000mm (1200mm - 24U rack)

24U and 36U racks
24U and 36U racks (with Hub space*1)
These racks in addition to supporting servers and their peripherals in the standard rack locations also have excellent cable management and separate locations for Hubs.

Internal Width: 19" (Industry standard)

Internal Height: 24U or 36U. (1U=1 3/4inches=44.5mm)
External Width: 700mm
External Depth: 950mm
External Height: 1800mm (1267mm - 24U rack)

24U and 36U racks hub space

*1: These racks have a separate (2U) space for a Hub unit as below conditions.
- Vertically mountable
- Maximum depth: 300mm
- Max.weight: 5kg
- Secured from front

* All racks have front and back doors. Both key lockable.
* They have blanking plates included in the initial delivery.
* They have stabilizing feet:- these can be extended to avoid the rack moving when either new modules are being inserted or existing modules are being slid forward for removal or replacement of hot plug items such as fans, hard disk drives, etc.

Fujitsu Rack Extension Unit

A matching rack and coupling kit can be added all of the above racks. They comes as a kit and consist of a rack with front and back doors but without sides. There use in conjunction with a matching rack of the same size allows a double (24U: up to triple) size rack to be constructed.

The key to rackmounting servers is to preserve the integrity of the inherent RAS (Reliability, Availability, Serviceability) that was built into each item being racked. Fujitsu racks have been tested in a variety of situations and configurations to ensure that mounting individual components in close proximity still maintains the same standards of system stability, cool running design and easy maintenance. They also comply to UL/CSA safety regulations. Fujitsu's rackmount systems bring the benefits of floor-spaces saving and easier system access, to the existing qualities that Fujitsu's RAS strategy delivers with each and every PRIMERGY.

Safety

The height and potential weight of racked systems makes it important that the moving of modules and access to internal components for maintenance is performed in a safe and secure manner. The Fujitsu rack and extension rack are fitted with a stabilizing mechanism for safety. This can be extended during maintenance to prevent the rack from tipping over.
